BEAMS JAPAN Opens Its First Store in Kyushu at Dazaifu

BEAMS JAPAN Dazaifu Opens Its Doors

On November 29, 2025, BEAMS JAPAN will mark its presence in Kyushu with the grand opening of its new store near the Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. This new outlet is significant as it stands as BEAMS JAPAN's 10th store, a milestone in the brand's mission to celebrate and promote the beauty of Japan.

Dazaifu Tenmangu is well-known as a cultural landmark dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of wisdom and learning. BEAMS JAPAN Dazaifu aims to engage with the local community, collaborating with local producers and businesses to create a unique shopping experience. The store will showcase approximately 180 products, including collaborative items developed in partnership with local artisans and curated selections of fine Japanese goods sourced by BEAMS JAPAN buyers. This opening is particularly noteworthy as it follows the establishment of an official partnership between BEAMS JAPAN and the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan as part of the “Japan Heritage” initiative.

Among the exclusive offerings at BEAMS JAPAN Dazaifu is the intriguing “Rubber Daruma,” a unique product created by the renowned Kurume-based shoe manufacturer MOONSTAR. The company proudly utilizes surplus materials generated during the manufacture of their sneakers using the traditional vulcanization method, transforming waste into charming talismans that reflect Japan's culture. Also featured are limited-edition pouches and tote bags made from Kurume Kasuri, a fabric recognized as an Important Intangible Cultural Asset of Japan, produced by Okamoto Shoten. Some of these items are ideally sized for carrying go-shuincho, traditional shrine stamp books, perfect for temple visits.

Additionally, the store offers unique goods from Ikihiko Corporation, which specializes in igusa products—an example of traditional crafts from the region. They showcase items like mats that incorporate designs inspired by plum blossoms, a nod to the historical association of plum with Sugawara no Michizane. At the same time, local social enterprises that manufacture housing materials, such as Bokura no Shigotoba, have contributed handmade wooden keychains made from Kyushu-produced hinoki wood, adding to the local flavor of the offerings.

In terms of visual branding, the store features exclusive merchandise such as logo tote bags and lunch bags that bring to mind “Benibai,” a shade of red inspired by the plum blossoms cherished by Sugawara no Michizane. Customers can expect to find not only local specialty products but also valuable items brought in from across Japan.

Since its inception in 2016, BEAMS JAPAN's goal has been to accentuate the uniqueness and charm of Japanese culture both domestically and internationally. With Dazaifu being the latest addition to its portfolio, BEAMS JAPAN now boasts ten retail locations. The brand also kicked off the “BEAMS JAPAN GATE STORE” initiative in 2022, which sees it working closely with local residents and businesses to create new souvenirs and enhance store experiences tailored to local characteristics. The Dazaifu location represents the seventh store under this collaborative project.
