U.S. Officials Inspect Rapid Growth of Oil Production in Venezuela with NABEP

U.S. Officials Examine NABEP's Oil Fields in Venezuela

On a recent visit spanning October 23 and 24, U.S. State Department officials ventured into the oil fields of North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP), a pivotal player in Venezuela's oil recovery efforts. Chargé d'Affaires John M. Barrett led this important delegation, observing firsthand the operational growth in oil production under a recent agreement forged with the U.S. government.

The visit comes at a noteworthy time for NABEP, as their production levels in the Petrozamora oil fields peaked at an unprecedented 115,000 barrels per day. This advancement signals a swift response to the August pact aimed at bolstering oil output in Venezuela, which has struggled in recent years.

Accompanying Barrett was Daniel Kennedy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy and Critical Minerals, who joined NABEP's CEO Alejandro Betancourt and officials from PDVSA, the state-owned oil company. The group focused their inspection efforts on the Bachaquero field, located on the shores of Lake Maracaibo, examining crucial infrastructure and ongoing projects set to escalate production further in the coming months.

Barrett remarked on the significance of this collaboration, noting, “American rigs are putting Venezuelans to work, and Venezuelan oil is strengthening America's energy security. Both of our countries are winning.” His comments underline the mutualistic relationship emerging from this partnership, as U.S. equipment and expertise are revitalizing Venezuela's oil sector while enhancing the U.S.’s energy independence.

The bulk of NABEP's new drilling operations is centered in the Junín 10 block, previously known as Junín Sur. Currently, the site hosts three active rigs, with plans for three additional rigs to begin operations soon, boosting NABEP's drilling capacity. The introduction of a sixth rig recently marks a continued investment in field revival efforts. Mr. Betancourt emphasized the extensive workforce involved, highlighting that every barrel produced reflects the hard work and dedication of Venezuelan labor.

NABEP's operations directly employ more than 5,000 individuals while supporting an additional 10,000 contractor jobs. Over the last two years, production has surged from a mere 18,000 barrels per day to over 200,000, thanks to an investment nearing $1 billion. This strategy clearly illustrates NABEP’s commitment to reinvesting revenues into production expansion to sustain its growth trajectory. As of mid-October, total output across its fields reached 223,509 barrels of oil equivalent per day, a testament to the company's ambitious goals.

The backdrop of this two-day visit is NABEP's agreement with the U.S. Departments of State and War, designed to dramatically enhance oil production capabilities in Venezuela, where the company holds rights to a substantial 65 billion barrels of proven reserves. In pursuit of long-term goals, NABEP aims to reach production levels of over 1 million barrels per day, a significant target that showcases the potential for revitalization within the Venezuelan oil sector.

As this partnership unfolds, it's clear that both NABEP and the U.S. are poised to benefit from a cooperative approach to energy production, setting the foundation for a thriving future in global oil markets.
