WeaverseLab Inc. is proud to announce its sponsorship of the NASA Space Apps Challenge Ube 2025, organized by the Yamaguchi technology community, Code for Yamaguchi. This event will take place from October 4th to 5th, 2025, in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture. In an innovative move, the event will feature a hybrid format that connects an in-person venue with a VR platform called Resonite. This marks the inaugural time that a VR venue will be incorporated into the challenge, merging the physical and digital worlds in a groundbreaking hackathon experience.

What is NASA Space Apps Challenge?


The NASA Space Apps Challenge is a global hackathon aimed at leveraging open data related to space, Earth environments, and satellites. Organized by NASA, it invites participants to create solutions to various challenges using the openly available data over the course of two days.

Event Overview

  • - Capacity: 20 participants on-site, 5 teams in VR.
  • - Eligibility: Anyone interested in the event who can attend for the full two-day period is welcome.

Event Schedule


Day 1:
  • - 10:00 - Venue opens
  • - 10:30 - Opening remarks and event overview
  • - 11:00 - Idea selection and team building (on-site only)
  • - 12:00 - Lunch break
  • - 13:00 - Development time begins
  • - 17:00 - Mid-term presentations
  • - 19:00 - Networking session
  • - 20:00 - Conclusion of Day 1 (teams can work at their convenience)

Day 2:
  • - 10:00 - Day 2 begins
  • - 12:00 - Lunch break
  • - 13:00 - Continuation of development time
  • - 15:00 - Project submission form completion
  • - 16:00 - Final presentations
  • - 18:00 - Award ceremony and closing
  • - 19:30 - Conclusion
  • - 20:00 - Clean up of the in-person venue

Items to Bring for In-Person Venue: Developers should bring necessary equipment such as PCs and smartphones. The venue will provide Wi-Fi and power strips. Nearby coin parking is available, and parking vouchers will be distributed to participants.

Development Themes


Participants will choose one from 18 development themes proposed by NASA, covering a range of scientific fields from Earth environment to space exploration and satellite technology. This year, specific themes tailored for the VR venue may include various offerings focusing on VR technologies. Interested individuals can view 3D resources made available by NASA here.

Additionally, there will be an informational session for hackathon participants prior to the event, hosted in Resonite on September 28, 2025.

Judging Criteria


The judging will happen on the afternoon of the second day, involving presentations from all teams participating in both the physical and VR venues. Teams presenting from the VR venue will do so online. Awards include prizes from sponsoring companies and opportunities for global nominations based on participant team numbers. Exceptional contributions will be evaluated by NASA technicians and researchers, leading to the finalization of global awards.
