Florida Holster Company Takes Bold Action in Support of Local Breast Cancer Fighter
In a heartfelt response to a community need, Vedder Holsters, a Florida-based manufacturer of Kydex holsters, has stepped forward to aid a local woman facing a challenging battle with breast cancer. This came in the wake of national breast cancer organizations declining to partner with them due to their affiliation with the Second Amendment. Instead of backing down, Vedder Holsters found a meaningful alternative that emphasized compassion over bureaucracy.
When the company sought to launch its Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign in September, they reached out to three prominent national organizations, hoping to join forces in the fight against breast cancer. However, disappointment struck when two organizations explicitly turned them down, stating that Vedder’s connection to the Second Amendment made them an unsuitable partner. The third organization did not respond at all.
Faced with rejection, the team at Vedder Holsters chose to pivot their strategy. They ventured to donate directly to an individual in need rather than go through the larger organizations that had turned them down. In their search, they discovered a local public servant—a devoted mother recently diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Recognizing the urgency and significance of the woman’s situation, Vedder Holsters decided to extend their support directly to her through her GoFundMe campaign.
Throughout October, in a spirited show of support, the company pledged to contribute $1 for every sale and $2 for every sale that included a pink holster as part of their campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The community responded enthusiastically, resulting in a remarkable total of $11,902 raised. This amount significantly assisted the woman's efforts to meet her financial goal of $30,000, earmarked for covering her medical expenses, lost wages, and essential household bills, as well as childcare.
The campaign’s success was driven by the loyalty and generosity of Vedder Holsters' customers, who demonstrated that collective action could lead to substantial change. The initiative not only provided vital support to the woman in her fight against cancer but also illustrated the power of community and the importance of direct action in the face of institutional barriers.
Reflecting on the experience, Brooke Vedder, co-owner of Vedder Holsters, expressed her disappointment over the rejections from the national organizations but emphasized the importance of pivoting towards a solution that could effect real change. She stated, "It is unfortunate that the organizations we reached out to turned down a partnership due to Vedder being connected to the Second Amendment. Our goal was to make an impact, promote a good cause, and inspire others to follow suit. Despite this setback, we were able to direct our efforts where they mattered most, benefiting someone who is part of our community and fighting cancer. Our customers made this possible, and we are grateful for their support."
