Exciting Summer Workshops for Kids and Parents at Tama
Tokyo's Tama Consumer Life Center is set to host engaging summer workshops aimed at young students and their parents. The initiative encourages children to grasp fundamental consumer knowledge and skills that are seldom taught in school while having a great time during their summer break.
Enriching Activities
With a focus on practical themes, these sessions aim to educate participants on essential life skills. Parents and children will have the chance to learn the importance of responsible money management, online etiquette, smartphone usage, and safety in a fun and interactive environment. Each topic is designed to stimulate thinking and discussions that are crucial for young consumers today.
Hands-On Disaster Preparedness Experience
One of the highlights of the program is a hands-on disaster preparedness workshop scheduled for August 5, 2025. Taking place at the Tachikawa Disaster Prevention Center, this event runs from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM and is free of charge. It caters to pairs of students from the 4th to 6th grades along with their parents, with a total of 24 pairs (48 participants) expected. In the event of excess applications, participants will be selected through a lottery draw.
In this workshop, families will participate in various activities including smoke simulations and a VR disaster experience. These fun yet educational activities aim to prepare participants for emergencies while also addressing potential safety hazards commonly encountered during summer leisure activities through quizzes and games.
On-Demand Learning Opportunities
Additionally, the program features on-demand online lectures available from July 28 to September 1, 2025, through YouTube. This free course, which requires registrants to bear their own communication costs, is open to all families residing or studying in Tokyo, with no maximum capacity, making it widely accessible to the community.
Kicking Off Financial Literacy
One of the focal points of the summer workshops is understanding the significance of money. Participants will explore essential questions like why is money important and how to utilize it wisely. Through discussions and interactive quizzes, families will delve into various roles money plays in our lives and learn about smart spending, saving, and investment techniques.
Safe and Responsible Digital Citizenship
In today’s digital age, understanding responsible online behavior is vital. Workshops will cover the foundational rules and etiquette for using smartphones and internet resources effectively and safely. Through talking points and activities, families will learn how to set personal rules for online interactions to foster a secure digital experience.
Learning Through Gardening and Recycling
Other enriching themes include getting acquainted with locally grown vegetables, exploring easy recipes that families can prepare together, and understanding the mechanics of cardboard composting. Additionally, educational segments will address plastic recycling and its impacts on the environment to encourage ethical consumption habits.
Registration Information
Parents can register for the summer workshops through electronic applications, with deadlines set for July 13, 2025, for the in-person session and August 31, 2025, for the online sessions.
