New Series 'Sanriku no Megumi' Launched
Red Horse Corporation, headquartered in Sumida, Tokyo, is excited to announce the launch of the second phase of its regional revitalization project in collaboration with local seafood processing companies. Dubbed 'Sanriku no Megumi,' this new series offers two popular fish products: "Salted Mackerel Fillet" and "Autumn Salmon Cut Fillet." Registered as part of Miyako City’s hometown tax program (furusato nozei), these items have already gained nationwide recognition for their convenience and taste.
Supporting Miyako City
Starting in 2024, Red Horse Corporation will be supporting the hometown tax operations of Miyako City, governed by Mayor Naomichi Nakamura. This initiative focuses on the recovery of the local economy, particularly after the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami that hit the Tōhoku region, severely affecting local fisheries and seafood processing facilities. Collaborating with companies like "Miyako Foods," known for their exceptional processing techniques, Red Horse aims to develop new local products and enhance the operational capacity of affected processors.
The Tōhoku region, particularly around Miyako City, is renowned for its rich fishing resources, part of one of the world's three major fishing grounds. However, years after the disaster, local seafood processing plants are still in recovery mode. To address this, Red Horse has investigated various processing facilities and partnered with Miyako Foods to capitalize on local natural fish. Their products are not only popular in local schools’ cafeterias but are also making waves in supermarkets across Japan.
The Exceptional Quality of the Products
This series prominently features two fantastic fish types. The Salted Mackerel is sourced from the peak season, where mackerels store high-quality fat to withstand the cold winter waters. The mackerel fillet is meticulously cured to highlight its umami flavor while simplifying preparation by removing the bones, allowing families to enjoy delicious meals effortlessly.
In contrast, the Autumn Salmon, just before the spawning season, provides soft, lean flesh rich in nutrients due to focused energy on eggs and roe, allowing for a tender and juicy experience. Both selections can be simply grilled or utilized in various recipes, delivering a taste of natural Sanriku fish to dinner tables across Japan.
The early registrations on the designated portals have seen significant interest, receiving numerous donations as of mid-August.
Aiming for a Brighter Future
In line with this initiative, Red Horse aims to develop competitive products for the hometown tax market that symbolize Miyako City. By enhancing the operational capacity of local seafood processing companies, the corporation believes it can significantly contribute to the revitalization of the local economy while expanding regional incomes.
