Introduction to Wood Change 2025
In 2025, Japan will host the International Exposition in Osaka and Kansai, highlighting the theme of ‘Wood Change 2025’. As one of the world’s leading forested countries, Japan boasts approximately 66% of its land covered with forests. Much of this includes managed forests that are now reaching their peak utilization period. By fostering a sustainable cycle of forestry resources—'cutting, using, planting, and nurturing'—there is a great opportunity to contribute to the sustainable development of the forestry and wood industry while aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. Furthermore, addressing issues like pollen allergies can also be part of the solution through the replacement of Japanese cedar and cypress trees with breeds that produce less pollen. The goal of ‘Wood Change’ is to deepen the understanding of the significance of using timber and to integrate wooden products into daily life, thus nurturing Japan's forests.
