Upcoming 2026 Japan Philharmonic Summer Concert: Nutcracker and More!
The Japan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, based in Suginami, Tokyo, is gearing up for its 52nd summer concert series, scheduled from July 18 to August 3, 2026. These performances will take place in the Tokyo metropolitan area and Kyoto, marking a significant musical event for families and young audiences alike.
Launched in 1975 with the desire to provide children their first experience of live orchestral music, the Summer Concert series has continued to evolve and captivate audiences of all ages. It is known for its engaging programs that blend classical music with user-friendly presentations. Many of those who attended as children now return with their own families, making this event a wonderful example of a “three-generation concert.”
With the Japan Philharmonic celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2026, this year’s concert will feature the esteemed conductor Junichi Hirokami, who serves as an Artistic Advisor, along with the popular conductor Ryuichiro Sonoda. Yoko Ebihara will narrate and sing during the performances, while the renowned Stars Dancers Ballet Company will present the ballet highlights from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, making this concert a delightful fusion of orchestra and ballet.
