The Broward Sheriff's Advisory Council Hosts Joyous Day at the Zoo for Families of Fallen First Responders

A Day of Joy at the Zoo for Families of Fallen Heroes

On May 31, 2025, Zoo Miami transformed into a place of laughter and connection for more than 30 families of fallen first responders, thanks to the Broward Sheriff's Advisory Council (BSAC) and the dedicated efforts of the Stahl Family and Dx-Web. This second annual 'Day at the Zoo' aimed to provide a heartfelt experience for the children and spouses of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community.

The event was filled with hands-on activities that allowed families to engage and create lasting memories together. Highlights included moments of feeding giraffes and parrots, and children cooling off in the splash park. Families shared meals, laughter, and stories, fostering a supportive environment that celebrates life amid grief.

Valerie Silverman, Executive Director of the Broward Sheriff's Advisory Council, expressed her satisfaction with the day's events: "It was wonderful to see the kids laughing, exploring, and simply enjoying the day. This is what it means to be part of the BSAC family. We’re here to support them, not just in grief, but in all moments of life. What’s especially meaningful is how we bring together families from different departments who might never have crossed paths. Their children connect, their parents bond, and true friendships form, all because of this shared space we’ve created."

The importance of such events was also highlighted by Kessianne Brewster, the Chairman's Council Partner of BSAC. "These families made the ultimate sacrifice. We can never replace who they lost, but we can stand with them, honor their families, and help bring moments of joy back into their lives." The 'Day at the Zoo' is just one of many annual events organized by BSAC to provide continued support to families of fallen heroes, emphasizing the long-term commitment the organization has to these families.

While many organizations focus on providing immediate financial assistance after tragedies, BSAC goes further by welcoming families into their community, ensuring they receive support for years to come. The camaraderie this event fostered among attendees is essential for healing and forming new bonds.

This memorable day would not have been possible without the unwavering support and generosity of the Stahl Family and Dx-Web. Their deep commitment to BSAC's mission and connecting with first responders and their families is both inspiring and vital. The Stahl Family and Dx-Web exemplify what it means to stand behind those who serve and the loved ones they leave behind, and they play a crucial role in the success of activities like the 'Day at the Zoo.'
