UNI1 Grand Prix 2026: A Unique Competition for Students
In a revolutionary student-driven project, the
UNI1 Grand Prix 2026 is set to discover the most delectable sea urchin cultivated by university teams in Tokyo's Itabashi Ward. Organized by
Itabashi Toggetoge Inc., the competition challenges students to grow sea urchins using their own homemade feed, where they compete not only in taste but also in branding effectiveness.
What Makes This Competition Unique?
The students participating in the competition are divided into three teams, where each team has the responsibility of conceptualizing the feed, raising the sea urchins for approximately three months, and marketing their creations on social media. The judging criteria are split into two crucial components: 50 points based on
social media engagement and another 50 points from an
actual taste test. This means that just knowing how to make a tasty sea urchin is not enough; the teams must also craft a compelling brand that entices potential customers.
The Teams and Their Concepts
The three teams in the competition have devised unique approaches:
- - Team A: Sakurouni aims to eliminate any uncertainty in quality by creating a brand that everyone can trust when selecting their sea urchins.
- - Team B: BREWNI utilizes malt residue from local sources in Itabashi, being an environmentally conscious initiative that promotes a new cycle within the community.
- - Team C: Itabashi no Shizuku incorporates local specialty foods and flowers as feed, developed from a nutritional perspective by students studying the relevant science.
Social Media Engagement: Your Chance to Participate!
Social media judging runs from
August 9 to September 7, 2026. Participants are encouraged to engage with social media posts from the teams, particularly on Instagram, where presentation videos are shared. Five criteria will be evaluated, with each having a maximum of 10 points, leading to a total of 50 points from this segment:
- - Number of likes
- - View counts
- - Share counts
- - Average view time
- - Number of posts
Each aspect of engagement reflects not only how popular a video is but also how effectively the students are communicating their project. The general public can assist by liking and sharing posts that resonate with them, using the hashtag
#UNI1GrandPrix to amplify their support.
Final Judging Day: Taste the Sea Urchins
The climax of the UNI1 Grand Prix will occur on
September 8, 2026, where a live taste test will decide the winning team. Held at the Sushi Choshimaru in Itabashi, this event will see skilled chefs prepare the sea urchins for tasting by a panel of judges who will assess them based on flavor, presentation, and branding concept, culminating in a total score of 100 points when combined with the social media scores.
