Wibra Enhances Store Security with Verkada's Advanced AI Solution
Wibra Modernizes Security Infrastructure with Verkada's Platform
Wibra, one of the most recognized discount retailers in the Netherlands, is making strides in upgrading its store security systems. This move is part of a larger initiative to modernize their IT infrastructure, focusing on advanced technological solutions. With the adoption of Verkada's AI-driven security platform, Wibra is transitioning from a fragmented network of local management systems to a streamlined, centralized cloud-based solution that allows for optimal monitoring across all locations.
The implementation is being carried out in collaboration with Simac, a long-standing IT service provider specializing in retail technology. This partnership aims to replace the outdated and inconsistent security setups previously managed on a store-by-store basis. The goal is to unify the entire security system under one robust platform that can be scaled easily as new stores are added to the network.
As Wibra’s IT team took over physical security operations, the search began for a central management platform that offered scalability across its 375 stores located in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. Mathijs Eijbaard, the IT Manager at Wibra, noted that Verkada's distinct advantage lay in its capability to monitor stores proactively—offering not just surveillance but real-time insights into store activity, rather than solely relying on footage for post-incident analysis.
The strategic decision to partner with Verkada was further solidified by the collaboration with Simac, which recognized a rising demand within the retail market for security systems that deliver more than mere video recordings. Retailers increasingly seek solutions that enable them to understand store dynamics, respond swiftly to incidents, and manage their operations from a centralized system.
Eijbaard stated, "Our investment in Verkada signifies a commitment to theft prevention and operational enhancements within our stores. Ultimately, we aim to elevate the shopping experience for our customers while ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees."
This emphasis on protecting both people and inventory while enhancing operational efficiency reflects a growing trend within the retail sector—security teams are now expected to deliver both safety outcomes and operational insights. For multi-location retailers like Wibra, adopting a unified platform that integrates all stores simplifies management and allows for efficient scaling.
Marc Peston, General Manager of Northern Europe at Verkada, added, "Wibra’s rapid growth necessitates a security system that is easy to manage and capable of scaling with the company's expansion. By consolidating all stores onto one platform, Wibra enables their teams to quickly access crucial information needed to investigate incidents and safeguard both employees and customers. Together with Simac, we are excited to support Wibra in building a more connected network of stores and leveraging insights to enhance day-to-day operations."
Looking forward, Wibra plans to integrate Verkada with additional systems, starting with their Point of Sale (POS) solution. This integration will allow transaction data to be linked directly with video footage, enabling the team to correlate in-store events such as returns or discounts with visual evidence, thereby deepening their understanding of in-store activities.
Furthermore, Wibra intends to utilize Verkada’s retail analytics, including occupancy trends and sales conversions, to optimize store layouts and staffing. This data-driven approach will help enhance the overall customer experience and improve sales performance.
