Tomorrow.Mobility 2026: A Gathering of Experts for Sustainable Urban Mobility
The Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress (TMWC) is set to be a milestone event, taking place from November 3 to 5, 2026, at Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via venue. This congress will feature an impressive assembly of over 240 international experts focused on accelerating sustainable urban mobility solutions. The event is co-organized by Fira de Barcelona and EIT Urban Mobility, under the auspices of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, which is part of the European Union initiative aimed at fostering innovation across Europe.
Among the headline speakers is mobility visionary Lukas Neckermann, renowned for his significant contributions to the field. He is the co-founder of the Urban Places Lab and the author of four influential books, including one that introduced “The Mobility Revolution” concept. His insights will play a pivotal role in illuminating the challenges and opportunities facing urban transport in the coming years.
Joining him is Teresa Riesgo, the Secretary General for Innovation at Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. She will participate in a roundtable discussion that addresses how mobility innovators can successfully navigate the complexities of an ever-evolving landscape. Axel Volkery, who leads the Innovation and Urban Mobility unit at DG MOVE, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, will share his expertise on public transport's evolution in response to changing user needs.
The congress also boasts a diverse lineup of additional speakers, including Daryl Barron, the Lord Mayor of Dublin; Karen Vancluysen, the Secretary General of POLIS; Lisandro Perotti, Undersecretary for Mobility Management and Control in Buenos Aires; Toks Omishakin, Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency; and Tanja Dik, CEO of the Johan Cruijff Arena. Each speaker brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to the discussions, enhancing the breadth of knowledge shared at TMWC.
A striking finding from a survey conducted by EIT Urban Mobility reveals that public transport is integral to urban living, with 56% of respondents in cities such as Barcelona, Munich, and Bucharest relying on it for commuting to work or study. This statistic underscores the importance of public transport, which surpasses car-based options at 52%. Interestingly, those who utilize public transport are notably more inclined to incorporate walking into their commutes.
Safety, reliability, and comfort are paramount considerations for commuters. However, the survey highlights significant gaps between commuter expectations and their actual experiences. For instance, car drivers pointed to concerns with traffic density, while public transport users expressed needs for improved service reliability. Alarmingly, 41% of respondents reported feeling completely drained by the time they arrive home, illustrating the pressing need for actionable solutions.
This gathered assembly at TMWC aims to explore these findings, sharing knowledge and innovative solutions that can make urban environments more livable. Not only will TMWC serve as a platform for exchanging ideas but it will also coincide with other significant events: the Smart City Expo World Congress, Tomorrow.Blue Economy, the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, and the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress. Together, these events are expected to attract over 27,000 participants and more than 1,100 exhibitors, further enriching the discourse around urban mobility and innovation.
In summary, Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress stands as a pivotal event designed to foster collaboration and innovation among stakeholders in urban transport. It represents a collective effort aimed not only at addressing current challenges but also at paving the way for a sustainable future in urban mobility that caters to the diverse needs of its users.
