Jimmy Battrell Set to Lead Ohio Education Computer Network as New CEO

New Leadership at the Management Council of Ohio

In a significant move for the Ohio Education Computer Network (OECN), the Board of Trustees has appointed Jimmy Battrell as its new CEO, effective this June. Battrell brings with him an impressive background in information technology, having dedicated 27 years to the education sector within the OECN, most recently holding leadership roles at the SEOVEC and META Information Technology Centers (ITCs).

Board Chair Tyler Smith expressed confidence in Battrell’s ability to lead the organization, stating, "The Management Council plays an important role in the technology and services schools rely on every day. Jimmy understands that responsibility, and the Board is confident he will continue strengthening the work and partnerships that serve schools across the Ohio Education Computer Network."

The Management Council is vital for providing various technology services and support to Ohio's ITCs and schools. These services encompass teaching and learning resources, financial software, student information systems, and internet support, among others. The council has also focused on developing cybersecurity strategies and communications tools enhancing the IT infrastructure for educational institutions.

As the organization has evolved, its services have expanded to include IT solutions for several state agencies, such as the Department of Education and Workforce, and the Department of Higher Education. Notably, the Management Council's staff have played a critical role in initiatives like the Governor's Merit Scholarship program and early childhood school readiness assessments. These programs reflect the council’s commitment to supporting instructional needs and ensuring the welfare of Ohio’s youth.

Battrell will be stepping in to fill the shoes of retiring CEO Geoff Andrews, who has headed the organization for over a decade. Andrews’ leadership has been pivotal in growing the Management Council’s size, scope, and strength. Commenting on his new role, Battrell stated, "I am looking forward to supporting the children of Ohio through our work with ITCs, schools, and state agencies. I thank Geoff for his leadership in growing the organization’s size and strength over the years. We are committed to building on this legacy as we continue to serve the educational needs of our state."

With the initial appointment set for three years, extending through summer 2029, Battrell will have ample time to implement his vision and further the mission of the Management Council. The educational landscape in Ohio stands to benefit significantly from his governance as he leverages his extensive experience to enhance the quality of IT services provided to schools and educational institutions across the state.

The Management Council remains poised at the forefront of educational technology innovation, ensuring that schools are equipped with the resources needed to foster student achievement. As Battrell steps into this new chapter, the commitment to improving education through technology remains as strong as ever, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and partnership in serving Ohio’s students.
