Embracing Educational Options: Oklahoma's School Choice Week
Today marks the beginning of National School Choice Week in Oklahoma, a time dedicated to encouraging parents to actively seek out the best K–12 schooling options for their children. This initiative aims to inform families about the diverse educational paths available in the Sooner State, ensuring that every child can thrive in a learning environment suited to their needs.
This year, more than 320 schools and various organizations across Oklahoma are participating in the celebration by organizing events designed to showcase student achievements in cities like Tulsa and Oklahoma City. These events not only inform parents about available choices but also celebrate the hard work and successes of students and educators alike.
Marking the occasion, Governor Kevin Stitt has officially declared January 25–31 as "Oklahoma School Choice Week." In his proclamation, the Governor highlights the importance of having multiple educational choices at the disposal of families, pointing towards a future where parents have a say in their children’s educational journeys.

The interest from parents is evident, as many are taking the initiative to thoroughly investigate their options to ensure their children succeed academically. Brent Bushey, CEO of Fuel OKC, commented on this trend, saying, “We're witnessing an increasing number of families in Oklahoma actively seeking out their educational options. Providing more high-quality school choices not only helps students excel but also drives innovation and strengthens our education system overall.”
National School Choice Week is celebrated nationwide until January 31, 2026, aiming to shed light on the extensive K–12 schooling choices available to families. This initiative serves as a catalyst for discussions around educational opportunities, furthering the dialogue on how to best equip Oklahoma’s youth for success in an ever-evolving world.
As this week unfolds, the focus remains on the shared belief that every child deserves access to a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs. With communities rallying around this cause, Oklahoma is setting an inspiring example of how educational choice can empower families and cultivate brighter futures for children.
By fostering an atmosphere that encourages educational exploration and support, Oklahoma is paving the way towards a robust and versatile educational landscape—one where every student's success is within reach.
