The festivities began with a pre-event reception on July 29, where cosplay icons visited local dignitaries, including Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura and Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirasawa, both greeting the participants in costume, setting a welcoming tone for the upcoming days. Governor Omura, embodying the villain Muzan from "Demon Slayer," expressed his excitement for the event's success, energizing attendees to aim for champion titles while enjoying the activities at the summit.

Radiant Ceremonies

On July 31, the event kicked off with a stunning opening ceremony at Oasis 21. A resplendent red carpet awaited attendees, and notable figures, including Oguri, Omura, and Hirasawa, graced the entrance in costume. Oguri articulated, “This year, I am thrilled to meet all of you who share a love for anime, manga, and gaming. Let us celebrate together, ensuring this cultural exchange lives on for future generations.” The slogan “Cosplay Everywhere!” resonated across participants, underlining the zeal to make cosplay a universal celebration.

On August 1, nearly 1,000 participants donned their elaborate costumes, parading through the bustling streets of Osu, creating a vibrant spectacle for onlookers. The atmosphere was electric as attendees waved and captured the colorful display of creativity, merged beautifully with the historic backdrop of the Osu area. A lively marching band contributed to the festivities, elevating the parade into a full-blown celebration.

The Osu Cosplay Parade has become one of the event's signature programs, combining the energy of competitive spirit with community interaction, embodying the essence of the summit.

Championships of Excellence

The grand finale took place on August 2, with the World Cosplay Championship 2026 held at Aichi Arts Theater. Teams from various countries showcased their mastery in costume design and performances, evaluated by esteemed judges, including voice actor Toshio Furukawa and multi-talented Shoko Nakagawa. The finale of this awe-inspiring event was the crowning of the Hong Kong representatives, Aru and Roniko, who won the title of Grand Champion for their stunning performance inspired by "Monster Hunter."

In the aftermath of their triumph, Aru shared the emotional journey of crafting their costume, thanking their pet cat for the inspiration behind their creation. Roniko, still overwhelmed by the victory, expressed excitement at being part of such a high-caliber competition.

A New Era for the Summit

Significantly, 2026 has been declared the last summer edition of the World Cosplay Summit, with future events set to transition to the autumn months. The next summit is scheduled for November 12 to 14, 2027, maintaining the event's legacy in Nagoya. The decision reflects the organizers' desire to adapt to changing global conditions while welcoming even more incredible participants from various countries.
