Celebrating Coffee Excellence at the 2026 Julius Meinl Barista Cup in Vienna

On September 4, 2026, the illustrious MuseumsQuartier in Vienna became the stage for an electrifying event—the Julius Meinl Barista Cup Grand Finale. This remarkable competition brought together fifteen outstanding barista champions from various countries, each having triumphed in their national competitions. Competing in three distinct categories—Espresso, Cappuccino, and Signature Drink—these talented baristas displayed extraordinary skill and passion for coffee.

The event was a celebration of excellence, highlighting the commitment of the baristas who work daily with Julius Meinl coffee, enriching the coffee experience in cafes, restaurants, and hotels worldwide. Christina Meinl, a fifth-generation member of the Meinl family and VP of Group Strategies, expressed her pride in witnessing the talent and creativity that the finalists brought to the competition. The Grand Finale was the culmination of an extensive selection process that saw over 350 applications from aspiring baristas across 15 countries, including Austria, Italy, Germany, China, Georgia, and Croatia. Ultimately, the fifteen national champions competed fiercely to assert their mastery over the craft of coffee. An independent panel of coffee experts evaluated their performances based on specific criteria: the taste, balance, and crema of the espresso; the harmony of espresso and milk in cappuccinos reflected through latte art; and the creativity and flavor balance in their signature drinks.

The excitement peaked as the winners were announced. Stefan Kot from Poland clinched the Espresso category, while Mario Benetseder from Austria triumphed in the Cappuccino category. The Signature Drink category was won by Luka Darispanashvili from Georgia. However, it was Elizaveta Rîmscaia from Moldova who shone the brightest, securing the prestigious title of Overall Champion 2026 for achieving the highest score across all categories. In her heartfelt remarks, Elizaveta expressed her gratitude and pride in representing Moldova on such a global platform, stating that the experience was a significant reminder of her capabilities.
