Gentari to Deliver Large-Scale Carbon-Free Energy to AMG Ammonia Operations
Gentari and AMG Ammonia: A New Era of Carbon-Free Energy in India
Gentari, a leading provider of clean energy solutions, has recently taken a monumental step in renewable energy development by entering into a long-term power purchase agreement with AMG Ammonia. This alliance is set to transform the energy landscape for green ammonia production in India.
A Bold Initiative
On December 9, 2024, Gentari Renewables India Castor One Private Limited signed a binding electricity purchase agreement with AM Green Ammonia India Private Limited (known as AMG Ammonia). Under this contract, Gentari will provide 650 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy around the clock, supporting AMG Ammonia's future green ammonia production facilities. This initiative reflects Gentari's commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in the region.
Gentari plans to establish a staggering 2,400 MW of renewable energy capacity, marking it as their largest new project globally. This capacity will largely draw from solar and wind resources, further enhancing the reliability and sustainability of energy supply.
Meeting Demands for Clean Energy
One of the standout features of this agreement lies in its tailored conditions to meet the year-round energy demands of a green ammonia facility. Gentari's renewable energy output will not only supply AMG Ammonia’s current needs but is also designed to meet future demands, paving the way for more contracts focusing on carbon-free energy supply. This aligns with the strict specifications defined under Renewable Non-Fossil Fuel Based Obligation (RNFBO), unlocking new markets especially in Europe.
Project Details and Goals
The project will primarily take place in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Along with energy production, Gentari is integrating a 350 MW/2,100 MWh energy storage system, ensuring stable and dispatchable green energy delivery to AMG Ammonia’s facilities. This innovative approach enhances the reliability and flexibility of renewable energy in the grid, demonstrating Gentari's comprehensive strategy in clean energy deployment.
AMG Ammonia aims to establish one of the world’s largest green ammonia platforms, targeting a monumental production of 5 million tonnes annually by 2030. This production will equate to approximately 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green hydrogen, which represents a fifth of India's green hydrogen production target under its national mission. Furthermore, it caters to 10% of Europe’s green hydrogen import goals, signifying a strong commitment to decarbonization efforts both domestically and internationally.
Leadership Perspectives
Navjit Gill, Country Head for Gentari India, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to accelerate the development of renewable assets in India.
