PATCH&PLAY's Enthralling Experience at LUMINE Ethicarnival
Recently, PATCH&PLAY, a unique embroidery and alteration shop operated by STORY&Co., took part in the LUMINE Ethicarnival held at Shinjuku's Lumine Est. From August 8 to August 9, 2026, this vibrant pop-up store invited visitors to redefine their relationship with fashion through creativity and ethical choices.
An Ethical Adventure on Each Visit
The event promoted the idea of nurturing clothing rather than discarding it, presenting two hands-on workshops – the Custom Pin-Making Experience and the Photo Embroidery Workshop. In addition, PATCH&PLAY featured a range of patches and offered on-the-spot pressing or sewing services for attendees' items. By integrating these experiences into a shopping environment, PATCH&PLAY encouraged participants to rediscover the joy of personalizing their attire.
An impressive 100% of participants reported satisfaction and expressed interest in returning for future events, with equally overwhelming enthusiasm for ethical practices.

Reflections on the Event
1.
Choosing Not to Dispose is Enjoyable: Every participant acknowledged a heightened interest in ethics related to fashion. Yet, many responses leaned towards the fun and personal engagement of making something distinctive. This reveals a significant approach—focusing on creative expression fosters a willingness to consider new sustainable practices.
2.
Value in Crafting Time: An impressive 80% of individuals felt that the activities provided mental well-being. Crafting and repair work not only prolong the lifespan of clothing but also create moments of mindfulness. The phrases like “It felt great to create again” encapsulate this sentiment perfectly.
3.
Commercial Spaces as Ethical Touchpoints: The reservations for the custom pin-making experience filled up entirely across both days, showcasing that retail environments can expose a broader audience to sustainable practices. However, there are varying engagement levels in booking based on the activity type, indicating a need for better communication and promotional strategies. PATCH&PLAY aims to leverage these insights for future events and its Harajuku location operations.
