FANCL Smile Holds Corporate 'Class Observation' Event for Employees with Disabilities

FANCL Smile's Unique Initiative for Employee Growth

On April 24, FANCL Smile, a special subsidiary of FANCL Corporation, conducted a unique corporate event dubbed “Corporate Class Observation Day.” This initiative was aimed at parents and stakeholders, allowing them to gain insight into the daily lives of employees with disabilities within their workplace.

Purpose of the Event

The primary objective of this event was to showcase the supportive work environment at FANCL Smile and encourage collaboration between the company and the families of employees. By doing so, the company aims to foster the personal and professional development of its staff. The event saw the participation of 38 parents and stakeholders, who engaged in various activities including company presentations, interactions with support staff, and guided workplace tours.

In recent years, while the employment of people with disabilities has expanded, there have been increasing calls for improvement in the quality of such employment. Issues such as workplace retention, opportunities for growth, and job satisfaction have emerged as significant challenges. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s report emphasizes the necessity of enhancing the quality of employment for people with disabilities, marking it as a central theme for future discussions.

FANCL Smile’s initiative not only addresses these social demands but also strives to create an environment where employees with disabilities can thrive and achieve independence through family and corporate cooperation.

The Corporate Class Observation Day included several key segments:
  • - Welcome Speech by the CEO: Jun Saito, president of FANCL Smile, addressed the gathering, reflecting on the company’s origins and its evolving purpose in providing a secure workplace for those with disabilities.
  • - Company Overview: Takakazu Yazawa, head of the business promotion department, shared insights about the company's operations across seven locations and its success in employing 94 individuals with disabilities.
  • - Introduction of Support Staff: Staff members introduced themselves and outlined their roles in supporting employees, fostering a transparent relationship between the staff and the parents present.

He articulated that the current challenge lies in ensuring that employees not only have jobs but also meaningful opportunities to develop and become self-reliant.

Saito also outlined specific initiatives the company is pursuing:
1. Standardization of Operations: Aiming to stabilize quality and improve productivity.
2. Broadening Professional Horizons: Encouraging staff to explore new job domains.
3. Tailored Support for Individual Growth: Focusing on personal development based on individual capabilities.

By cultivating a space where employees feel supported in pursuing their aspirations, FANCL Smile aims not only for individual growth but also contributes to the overall value of the organization.

Following Saito, Yazawa highlighted FANCL Smile's impressive employment rate of 4.38% for people with disabilities, well above the national legal requirement. He noted that the company plays a pivotal role in the FANCL Group’s operations, handling various tasks ranging from logistics to production.

Yazawa also emphasized the significance of initiatives aimed at encouraging skill development and fostering career advancement within the organization.

Employee Support Staff Presentations

Throughout the day, attendees met the support staff, who play a vital role in the success of the employees. They shared their experiences and offered personal insights into how they facilitate a nurturing work environment, which is crucial for parents to understand the supportive atmosphere in which their loved ones operate.

Engaging Workplace Tours

During the tours, employees proudly explained their daily tasks. Parents witnessed firsthand the dedication and professionalism of their children, enhancing their confidence in the workplace support provided. Many noted the importance of such direct engagement, leaving them reassured about their family members' environments.

Successful Networking Session

The conclusion of the event featured a networking session, allowing parents to seek further clarity on the support systems established for their children. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to observe their kin in a professional setting firsthand.
