Jordan Williams Triumphs in Elite Men's Downhill at WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series
From July 3 to 5, 2026, La Thuile in Italy's Aosta Valley played host to the highly anticipated Round 5 of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series. Known for its challenging terrain and steep descents, the venue provided a spectacular backdrop for some of the world's top downhill and cross-country riders.
Williams Dominates the Downhill
In the spotlight of the event was 21-year-old Jordan Williams from Bristol, UK. With remarkable composure and aggressive determination, he claimed victory in the Elite Men's Downhill category. Williams tackled the treacherous La Thuile course at lightning speed, recording an impressive time of 325.767 seconds to finish just under one second ahead of his closest competitor, Asa Vermette.
"That was so insane! I can barely speak! I basically risked my life the whole way down the track," Williams exclaimed. This victory comes after a long wait for the rider, further emphasizing the significance of this moment. "I can't thank everyone enough for the support! This feels so good," he added, showcasing his appreciation for his team and fans.
Women's Downhill Highlights
In the Elite Women's Downhill competition, 24-year-old Lisa Baumann from Montalchez, Switzerland, continued her strong season by finishing second. Her time of 358.744 seconds placed her closely behind race winner Vali Höll, in what was one of the tightest finishes of the weekend
"Ah, what a race and what a track!" Baumann reflected. The driver commented on the added pressure of representing Monster Energy while sporting a new helmet design. Despite the challenges posed by the deteriorating track conditions, her performance secured her a podium placement, making her debut with Monster feel all the more rewarding.
Cross-Country Showdown
Sunday brought additional excitement with the Elite Men's Cross-country Olympic (XCO) race, where Luca Martin showed his prowess. After also placing second in the Elite Men's Cross-country Short Track (XCC) the previous day, Martin earned the victory and currently leads the overall standings in the XCO World Cup. "It was insane," he said. "That was a real mountain bike track... these types of tracks are getting harder to come by on the circuit, so this was really refreshing."
Martin's performance further highlighted Monster Energy's strong showing throughout the weekend, including solid finishes from teammates Aldridge and Pinkerton. Aldridge expressed his excitement post-race, noting the aggressive pace maintained throughout the competition and his determination to push for victory even in difficult conditions.
