The 2026 SAS Championship: Celebrating Golf, Innovation, and Community in Cary

From October 12 to 18, the SAS Championship returns to Prestonwood Country Club, turning Cary, North Carolina, into a hub of golf, education, and community outreach. This year marks a week-long festival of golf combined with programs that emphasize technology, STEM education, and community spirit.

A Week-Long Celebration

The championship attracts thousands of fans and brings together renowned golfers for an event filled not only with competition but also with community-driven programs. Notable initiatives include the HBCU Invitational, Women’s Day, Folds of Honor Friday, and fun-filled family activities under the banner of Fairway to Fun. These events are designed to showcase how the SAS Championship goes beyond just golf, aiming to leave a lasting impact on the local community.

Community Initiatives

One of the tournament’s core focuses this year is supporting the YMCA Annual Campaign, particularly their STEM programs that provide critical educational resources to local youth. SAS has been a staunch supporter of educational initiatives, contributing millions over the years. In fact, over $6 million has been funneled into youth education and community programs through partnerships, including a donation of $220,000 for the current event.

Fairway to Fun

On Friday, October 16, Fairway to Fun will be back, offering an evening packed with family-friendly activities, including an AI experience zone filled with hands-on educational activities. Attendees will also enjoy a selection of local cuisine from food vendors like BareBakedPizza and Cousins Maine Lobster while culminating the evening with a spectacular fireworks show. Moreover, families completing the activity course will receive a one-week YMCA membership pass, promoting community involvement and healthy living.

Technological Innovations: Fairway Forecast

This year, the initiative welcomes an innovative feature called Fairway Forecast, a mobile web application powered by SAS analytics and AI. This app allows fans to engage with the tournament in real-time, offering player insights and allowing fans to make predictions and compete for prizes. Visitors can access this technology through QR codes available at the venue, emphasizing the intersection of sports and technology.

Empowering Women and Youth

The 13th annual Women’s Day is another significant event where participants will engage in discussions about health, leadership, and resilience under the theme “Redefining Luck.” The HBCU Invitational, now in its fifth year, will feature 15 teams from historically Black colleges and universities competing for grants to support their golf programs. This event includes a career day, providing invaluable networking opportunities and mentorship for aspiring young leaders.

Honoring Heroes

Another highlight is Folds of Honor Friday, dedicated to honoring service members and first responders. This event involves a tribute ceremony and the awarding of scholarships to support the education of local students whose parents have made sacrifices for the country. SAS continues its support of this vital program with a $30,000 contribution towards scholarships.

Conclusion

The 2026 SAS Championship represents more than a premier golf event; it serves as a conduit for community uplift, educational empowerment, and the integration of technology with sports. Tickets are available for those wishing to join this week of celebration, community involvement, and commitment to positively impacting the local Triangle area, proving once again that sports can unite and uplift communities.

In highlights of various charitable and educational programs, attendees at the SAS Championship will see firsthand how sport can intersect with dedication to community service, education, and technological innovation.
