Huawei and JA Solar Launch Green Education Project in Thailand with UNESCO and Ministry of Education

Huawei and JA Solar's Green Education Project in Thailand

In a significant move towards sustainable development, Huawei, JA Solar, UNESCO, and the Thai Ministry of Education have officially kicked off the Green Education Project in Thailand. Announced on December 12, 2024, this initiative aims to foster a new generation equipped with environmental awareness and digital skills. The project is a key part of Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative, focusing on providing clean energy solutions and ICT training across eleven schools and community centers in Thailand.

The project's launch was marked by the installation of solar power roofing at the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center in Nakhon Nayok, which served as one of the project's first beneficiaries. David Li, Huawei's General Manager in Thailand, emphasized that the Green Education Project transcends typical corporate social responsibility efforts. It represents a long-term investment in the youth and the future of Thailand. By merging clean energy solutions with practical education, the initiative aims to create a role model for sustainable development and integration in education.

The project seeks to equip schools and communities with renewable energy systems while enhancing technical skills that address educational and energy challenges in rural Thailand. It aligns with the nationwide push for greener innovations, targeting areas that have previously lacked infrastructure.

Two significant beneficiaries, the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center and the Kanchanapisek Vocational Training College, are set to develop various digital and technical skills related to green energy and sustainability for local communities. The Banna Center will offer free training programs on green energy and digital skills, helping to bridge the skill gap in underdeveloped regions.

Meanwhile, the Kanchanapisek Vocational Training College will leverage the provided photovoltaic systems to conduct training in installation, maintenance, and operation, equipping students with valuable skills for future employment.

Local educators have praised the potential impact of the Green Education Project. Tisakorn Klinbooppha, the director of the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center, highlighted how collaborations between global corporations and local educational institutions can drive significant change. The solar equipment provided is set to offer students hands-on experience in installing and maintaining renewable energy systems, giving them a competitive edge in the labor market.

Project Structure

The Green Education Project is structured around three main pillars:
1. Green Secondary Schools: This pillar focuses on installing solar systems on secondary school rooftops. Training will be provided for teachers and students on the benefits and workings of green energy.
2. Green Vocational Schools: This part aims to prepare technical and vocational students for careers in the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector, offering practical experience with photovoltaic systems.
3. Green Communities: Initiatives under this segment will support public libraries and learning centers through the deployment of Huawei's “digital bus,” incorporating renewable energy-based solutions and mobile digital education programs, including training in green energy and cybersecurity.

So far, Huawei's digital bus has traveled to ten remote provinces in Thailand, providing training to over 4,500 students in green energy and digital awareness, equipping them for a sustainable future.

Thailand's commitment to integrating renewable energy solutions aligns with the government's educational modernization efforts. As part of this initiative, JA Solar, a partner of TECH4ALL, is dedicated to accelerating Thailand's energy transition while empowering students with hands-on knowledge that fosters lasting community change.

Looking ahead, Huawei, JA Solar, and collaborators plan to expand the project's reach by welcoming additional organizations to join the mission of equipping the next generation with essential skills and tools to foster a sustainable society in Thailand.
