WeRide Partners with Renault to Return Autonomous Shuttles at Roland-Garros 2025
WeRide, a leader in autonomous driving technologies, is teaming up once more with Renault Group, the premium partner of Roland-Garros, to bring back their innovative shuttle service during the 2025 Grand Slam tournament. This partnership builds on the successful launch of the Robobus service last year, which covered a distance of 2.8 km in just 12 minutes. The route connects key locations including the Avenue de la Porte d’Auteuil, the Place de la Porte d’Auteuil, the P1 parking lot at Carrefour des Anciens Combattants, and the Roland-Garros Village. The Robobus service will be operational daily from May 25 to June 8, open for use from 10:30 AM to 5 PM, and later from 6 PM to 8 PM, with a new night service running from 10 PM to midnight.
This year, the introduction of the night service aims to offer enhanced convenience and access for attendees, extending operating hours and providing an option for late-night travel. Notably, the Robobus functions seamlessly under various conditions, including complex nighttime environments where urban illumination can be inadequate, and traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, may be unpredictable.
Tony Han, the founder and CEO of WeRide, expressed excitement over the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to return to Roland-Garros with our long-standing partner, Renault Group, to advance our common mission of marketing autonomous mobility across Europe. Bringing our Robobus service back for a second year not only demonstrates confidence in our technology but also highlights its real-world readiness.”
The partnership with Renault is particularly significant as Europe represents a key market in WeRide’s global strategy. With autonomous products already certified in five markets, including France, the company is intensifying its efforts to deliver safer, smarter, and greener mobility solutions throughout the region.
Patrick Vergelas, the mobility project manager at Renault Group, highlighted the significance of this initiative, remarking, “These electric autonomous minibuses and shuttles embody our vision for a new public transportation system that is safer, smoother, more efficient, and more sustainable for communities and their residents. Since initiating trials, it is evident that the public is ready for autonomous public transport.”
The communication about the autonomous shuttles at Roland-Garros illustrates the ongoing collaboration between WeRide and Renault, furthering their shared ambition to scale autonomous mobility solutions across Europe. In March, WeRide and Renault also marked a significant milestone by launching the first commercial deployment of fully autonomous Robobus services in the Drôme department of France, in collaboration with partners like beti and Macif. Additionally, another Robobus trial is currently being conducted in the center of Barcelona, Spain.
Thus, this innovative partnership not only enhances the experience for tennis fans at Roland-Garros, but also serves as a stepping stone towards a future where autonomous mobility becomes increasingly integrated into daily life in cities across Europe. As the world looks towards smarter transportation solutions, WeRide and Renault are leading the charge in demonstrating the viability and benefits of autonomous shuttles.
