Exploring Memory and Imagination at LURF GALLERY's Upcoming Exhibition

LURF GALLERY's 'IMAGINATION': A Journey through Memory

Event Timeline
Beginning on March 13, 2026, and running until April 5, 2026, LURF GALLERY will present a unique group exhibition titled 'IMAGINATION.' This exhibition will showcase the works of five talented artists: Shimpei Arima, Oscar Oiwa, Isshin Tanisaki, Iori Nagashima, and Shimpei Yoshida. Each of these creatives draws inspiration from personal memories, imbuing their pieces with a sense of narrative and emotional depth.

Artists and Their Artistic Approaches

1. Shimpei Arima

Born in 1979 in Saga Prefecture, Japan, Shimpei Arima employs Japanese cedar in his sculptural works. His acclaimed piece, 'Sugikodama', represents an interaction between wood and the human spirit, evoking thoughts on nature and existence.

2. Oscar Oiwa

Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Oscar Oiwa offers viewers an immersive experience through his innovative works that blur the lines between urban landscapes, nature, and memory. His practice encapsulates a journey through perception, utilizing large-scale inflatable installations that evoke emotional contemplation.

3. Isshin Tanisaki

Isshin Tanisaki, born in Fukuoka in 1974, explores the theme of life's energy through vibrant whirlpool motifs that reveal the intricate connections of existence. By employing techniques of pointillism since the early 2000s, he expresses how energy flows and transforms within our daily lives and the universe at large.

4. Iori Nagashima

Iori Nagashima, a 1997 native of Osaka, focuses on the quiet moments of ordinary life. By capturing stillness in his subjects—people, objects, and landscapes—he delves into the emotional relationships between memory, time, and the viewer's perception.

5. Shimpei Yoshida

Born in Nara Prefecture in 1992, Shimpei Yoshida uses his art to confront themes of presence and absence, memory, and the ephemeral nature of human connections. His portrait series serves as reflections on shared experiences, challenging audiences to consider the nuances of visibility and invisibility.

Exhibition Features

Through exploring diverse artistic expressions, the exhibition invites attendees to engage with the artists' unique narratives. Each piece is not merely a recollection but a reimagining, constructing new imagery through the lens of personal recollections and imaginative exploration.

The exhibition interrogates the interplay of memory and imagination, allowing these five distinct expressions to inhabit the same space, offering varied perspectives on these fundamental human experiences.

LURF GALLERY is also set to participate in the ART FAIR TOKYO 2026 from March 13 to 15, 2026, showcasing selected works from the artists featured in this exhibition.
