New Partnership for Digital Safety in APAC
On November 25, 2023, the Japan Trust and Safety Association (JTSA) and the Digital Trust & Safety Partnership (DTSP) announced their collaboration aimed at establishing safer and more reliable digital ecosystems in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. This partnership centers around a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the implementation of international standards like ISO/IEC 25389, known as the 'Safe Framework'.
Through this initiative, JTSA and DTSP are committed to conducting joint outreach efforts to educate and support the implementation of these international standards. The collaboration will involve working alongside related organizations in Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region to enhance the safety practices and frameworks that govern digital services.
David Sullivan, Executive Director of DTSP, emphasizes the universal challenge of ensuring user safety: "User safety is a global concern, and strong, trustworthy partnerships are essential. I am excited to work closely with our Japanese colleagues to promote responsible and effective trust and safety practices."
Takaaki Kanaya, the representative director of JTSA, echoed these sentiments, stating, "As digital services proliferate across various sectors—much like global trends—we must adopt trust and safety practices that align with internationally recognized standards. Building on our collaboration with DTSP, we aim to contribute to broader initiatives that realize safer online environments in the Asia-Pacific region."
In tandem with this announcement, JTSA is set to present the Safe Framework at the 'Internet Week 2025', a historical internet conference in Japan, focusing on trust and safety-related sessions. Both JTSA and DTSP plan to outline further details of their joint activities in the coming months, paving the way for enhanced online security and community engagement.
