Boston Marathon 2025 Breaks Fundraising Records with Over $50 Million

Record-Breaking Fundraising at the 2025 Boston Marathon

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that the 2025 Boston Marathon, sponsored by Bank of America, raised an astonishing $50.4 million for charity. This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous year's record of $45.7 million, marking a significant milestone in the marathon's history.

The total amount was generated through the efforts of 176 non-profit organizations involved in the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program, alongside donations and fundraising initiatives from race participants. Since the program's inception in 1989, total charitable fundraising has now exceeded $600 million, a testament to the ongoing dedication of the community.

Nicole Juri, the B.A.A.'s Director of Development, expressed her pride in the participants and community members. "Every year, they elevate the fundraising impact for meaningful causes throughout the community. Their inspiring effect extends well beyond the 26.2-mile racecourse," she said, emphasizing the significance of each participant's contribution.

Bank of America played a crucial role in amplifying the narratives of the fundraising runners through the "My Marathoner" campaign. This initiative celebrates the perseverance and resolve of athletes who take part in the charity program. David Tyrie, Bank of America's President of Marketing, described the marathon as a powerful force positively impacting numerous organizations and the people they serve daily. "The fundraising total showcases that anything is achievable when individuals, volunteers, local businesses, and supporters unite in determination and generosity," he remarked.

The Charity Program accounts for nearly 10% of the Boston Marathon field size. Participating organizations utilize their entries to recruit athletes committed to raising funds for their causes. A complete list of these organizations participating in the 129th Boston Marathon can be found on the B.A.A. website.

To bolster participants' fundraising efforts, the Boston Marathon Giving Day was held on March 20. This event saw a record-breaking single-day fundraising achievement of $1.87 million, which included participation from media campaigns and inspirational activities, including a group run led by 2018 Boston Marathon champion Des Linden.

Moreover, the B.A.A. also embarked on its fundraising journey as part of the official charity program, raising over $384,000 to support its mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle through running and sports. Additionally, the organization's inaugural B.A.A. Climate Crew raised an impressive $83,000 aimed at enhancing the marathon's sustainability initiatives.

Looking to the future, those interested in being part of the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program for 2026 can find application details on the B.A.A. website.
