4th Tokyo Medical Research Citizen Lecture on Dementia Care Initiatives

The Tokyo Medical Research Institute is set to host its fourth installment of the Citizen Lecture series on September 19, 2025, focused on innovative approaches to dementia care titled "New Initiatives for Dementia Care 2025." This initiative aims to share cutting-edge knowledge and research findings with the public, enhancing community awareness about crucial medical breakthroughs and preventive strategies in dealing with dementia.

Event Details

  • - Date and Time: September 19, 2025, from 14:30 to 16:00.
  • - Format: The event will be conducted in a hybrid format, with both in-person attendance at the Tokyo Medical Research Institute auditorium and online participation via Zoom.

In this session, distinguished guest speaker Mori Hiroshi, an adviser at the Social Medical Corporation Tohoku Hospital and a special professor at Nagaoka St. Stork University, will share insights alongside Hasegawa Seijin, the leader of the dementia research project at the institute.

Lecture Outline

The lecture will cover the recently enacted Basic Law on Dementia, also known as the Dementia Basic Law, which was passed unanimously by both houses of the National Diet of Japan in 2024. Mori Hiroshi will discuss the significance of this legislation, emphasizing that the true implementation and spirit of the law relies on the commitment and involvement of each citizen. Attendees will learn about the background of this law and the vision it sets forth, with hopes of fostering a better understanding of dementia care practices amongst the public.

Mori will advocate for the creation of a society where everyone can feel fortunate to have been born into and lived within Japan, encouraging a community that cares for its members deeply. He believes that by fully understanding and working towards the goals outlined in the Dementia Basic Law, we can cultivate a richer, more compassionate society where mental well-being is prioritized.

Additionally, participants can look forward to an overview of new drugs for dementia and future medical advancements in the field.
