Oncoinvent's Radspherin® Clinical Dosimetry Results



On August 11, 2026, Oncoinvent, a pioneering biotech company, announced a significant milestone with the publication of clinical dosimetry results for Radspherin® in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine. This publication marks an important step in the development of receptor-independent alpha radiopharmaceuticals aimed at combating cancer cells in the abdominal cavity post-surgery.

The study centered around nine patients who participated in the dosimetry cohorts of the Phase 1 Radspherin® trials targeting ovarian and colorectal cancers. Notably, the data revealed that the radiation doses absorbed by normal organs were markedly below the levels typically associated with toxicity risks, thereby affirming the favorable safety profile that has been observed throughout these studies.

Caroline Stokke, the senior author of the publication and Head of Nuclear Medicine Physics at Oslo University Hospital, emphasized the significance of understanding radiation exposure in early-phase clinical studies. According to Stokke, dosimetry not only helps in assessing potential toxicity but also in identifying tissues that may limit dosing. She explained that the complexity of dosimetry procedures for alpha therapies often necessitates alternative methodologies, as imaging techniques might not directly apply. To overcome these challenges, a combination of blood sampling and biokinetic modeling was employed to accurately estimate radiation exposure in normal tissues.

Conducted at The Norwegian Radium Hospital, the dosimetry study focused on how radiation emitted from Radspherin® disseminates to surrounding healthy tissues after treatment. The results were promising: absorbed radiation doses to essential organs, including the kidneys and red bone marrow, remained well within safe limits. This finding was particularly vital, as unintended radiation exposure to healthy tissues is often a significant hurdle in the development of effective radiopharmaceutical therapies.
