Greenberg Traurig Facilitates Eolus's Roccasecca Project Sale

In a significant transaction in the renewable energy sector, global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has successfully represented Eolus, a notable Swedish renewable energy developer listed on Nasdaq Stockholm, in the sale of its Roccasecca battery energy storage project for an impressive sum of approximately $66.9 million. This all-cash transaction reflects the growing interest in sustainable energy solutions and highlights Eolus's strong position in the market.

The Roccasecca project, which boasts a robust capacity of 127 megawatts/506 megawatt-hours, is strategically located in Boulder City, Nevada. The buyer, a leading independent power producer in the U.S. with a substantial portfolio exceeding 12 gigawatts of renewable energy assets, will assume all rights and obligations related to the project. This includes a 15-year tolling agreement, equipment supply contracts, and project finance agreements meticulously negotiated by Greenberg Traurig on behalf of Eolus.

Notably, alongside the equity sale, Greenberg Traurig negotiated and secured project-finance credit facilities that were crucial for the continuation of the project's development. This strategic financial arrangement includes construction-to-term financing and a tax equity bridge loan, which are vital for the project's anticipated completion and the expected commercial operational date in 2026.

The legal team from Greenberg Traurig that played a pivotal role in this transaction was led by Jeffrey A. Chester, Co-Head of the Global Energy Project Finance Development Practice, alongside key contributors including Ernesto Danache IV, Claire Hansen Suni, and several others from various offices within the firm. Their diverse expertise showcases the firm's ability to tackle complex transactions in the ever-evolving energy landscape.

As a leading developer of innovative and tailored renewable energy solutions, Eolus is dedicated to providing sustainable investment opportunities across the Nordics, the Baltics, Poland, and the United States. This sale is a strategic move, allowing Eolus to continue its growth and commitment to renewable energy, which is increasingly critical in today's climate-conscious world.
