Huawei Unveils Six Global Energy Projects
At the recent HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, held in Shanghai, Huawei hosted the Global Electric Power Summit 2026 themed "AI × Energy: Towards a New Energy System." This significant event brought together over 600 representatives from international electric companies, industry organizations, ecosystem partners, and media to explore new avenues for integrating energy transition with advanced digital technologies.
During the summit, Huawei showcased six major energy projects reflecting end-to-end intelligent digital transformation practices, spanning from energy generation to consumption and across both national and international markets. This initiative marks a pivotal shift for the energy sector, transitioning from a one-way approach to an integrated system leveraging computational power.
The global energy landscape is currently undergoing substantial changes. Decentralized renewable energy sources are now essential for reducing foreign dependency and ensuring network resilience and universal electricity access. Philippe Adam, Secretary General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), commented on the deep transformation the electricity sector is experiencing, driven by energy transition, artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs), and digitalization. He emphasized the pressing challenges related to the shift towards renewables, smart transformation, and the lack of electricity access for 700 million individuals worldwide, asserting that AI has become indispensable for the survival of century-old electrical systems.
Huawei believes that low voltage will evolve into a vital application area for AI as it addresses the bottlenecks present in electrical grids. Systematic and transparent management of low voltage is necessary, supported by six fundamental capabilities: observability, measurability, controllability, adjustability, negotiability, and traceability. These are all crucial for long-term sustainability. David Sun, CEO of Huawei's Electric Power Digitalization Division, stated, "The principle of low voltage transparency is straightforward: faster data, better quality, and higher profitability. To establish a new energy system, the sector must focus on three essential priorities: digital talent, digital infrastructures, and a foundation of regulated digital assets."
Scenario-Based Implementations of Six International Projects
The Global Electric Power Summit featured six flagship projects globally, including:
- - CEMIG's digital and intelligent network in Brazil.
- - Guangzhou Baiyun's new electrical system demonstration zone, showcasing synergy between distribution and microgrids, linked to the China Southern Power Grid.
- - Intelligent diagnosis and operation of a new electricity distribution network in Shaoshan, Hunan Province, China.
- - Smart electricity procurement and consumption initiatives in Jiangxi Province, China.
- - A ±800 kV UHT digital conversion station in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China.
- - Electrical communication networks in Liaoning Province, China.
These projects exemplify efficient practices across various scenarios as the energy sector embraces intelligent energy in a comprehensive process.
Looking ahead, Huawei aims to continue leveraging its strengths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The company plans to collaborate with global energy groups, standardization bodies, and ecosystem partners to foster innovation, thereby facilitating modernization in the energy sector and enhancing overall ecosystem prosperity.
