A New Era for Esports Education in Japan
The Japan Esports Education Association (JeSEA) is excited to announce its inaugural
International Esports Educators Seminar, aimed specifically at its members, which include schools, businesses, and individual participants. This seminar is scheduled to begin on
May 16th, with applications for real-time participation due by
May 14th. For those unable to attend live sessions, an archive of the presentations will be made available. Furthermore, registrations for hybrid participation or solely through archive access are accepted until the end of June.
Purpose of the Seminar
Globally, the need for training esports educators has become increasingly recognized since 2016. Through collaborative efforts involving various disciplines such as history, psychology, sports science, economics, management, law, computer science, and information technology, a robust curriculum for educators is being developed. JeSEA has actively participated in these discussions, and the outcomes are gradually forming a global standard. Additionally, there are movements in some countries towards national qualifications for esports athletes, paralleling the standardization efforts in esports curriculum for learners worldwide.
In Japan, however, the integration of esports into educational frameworks, including school programs and extracurricular activities, has gained momentum. This development has highlighted a critical shortage of qualified educators with expertise in the wide-reaching field of esports education. Responding to this need, JeSEA is leveraging its accumulated knowledge to conduct this seminar, covering essential domains such as education, psychology, physiology, management, and law.
The second seminar, scheduled for this autumn, will incorporate discussions on information technology and engineering.
