Ashcor is set to implement its patented Reclaimed Ash Management (RAM™) technology, which has been designed to enhance the utility of coal ash in construction. Instead of being a waste product, the processed ash will serve as a high-grade substitute for traditional cement used in concrete production. This is crucial as conventional cement manufacturing contributes about 8% of global CO2 emissions. By repurposing coal ash, Ashcor aims to mitigate this impact significantly.

John Tiberi, President of Ashcor, noted the advantages of their technology. "Ultimately, this manufactured ash can substitute up to 30 percent of traditional portland cement, making it a more sustainable solution for countless construction projects."

Project Timelines and Operations


The timeline for the project's initiation is slated for operations to commence by January 1, 2027, following the construction of the RAM™ facility. With an expected operational life of about two decades, Ashcor will manage the extraction and processing of co-mingled bottom ash and fly ash to produce a high-quality construction material that meets industry specifications.

As the Campbell facility has a historical generating capacity of nearly 1,500 megawatts, this transition is also part of Consumers Energy’s Clean Energy Plan, which seeks to phase out coal entirely by 2025 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions moving forward.
