Darden Restaurants and Uber: Expanding On-Demand Delivery with Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen

Darden Partners with Uber for On-Demand Delivery Pilot at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen

In a strategic move to enhance customer convenience, Darden Restaurants, Inc. has announced a new partnership with Uber Technologies, Inc. to launch an on-demand delivery service at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. Following the successful delivery pilot at Olive Garden, this initiative is set to redefine how customers enjoy their favorite meals from Cheddar's.

This pilot program, currently active in 10 Cheddar's locations, allows customers to place delivery orders directly through the Cheddar's website and mobile app. Uber Direct will manage the delivery process using Uber's extensive national delivery infrastructure, ensuring timely and efficient service.

Chris Chang, Chief Information Officer of Darden, expressed confidence in the collaboration. He mentioned, "We have developed a strong partnership with the Uber Direct team. Our learnings from the Olive Garden pilot, combined with its successes, prompted us to swiftly move towards piloting delivery at Cheddar's."

The integration of Uber Direct is positioned as a response to the rapidly evolving needs of restaurants. Sarfraz Maredia, Vice President of Delivery at Uber Eats, stated, "The needs of restaurants are evolving more quickly than ever, and we're focused on providing world-class solutions to meet those needs. Our operators at Olive Garden provided excellent feedback on the ease of integrating Uber Direct into their operations, and we are confident these benefits extend to Cheddar's operators, their teams, and guests."

Darden Restaurants is renowned for its impressive portfolio of diverse brands such as Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House, alongside Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. This latest initiative is aimed at not only boosting the dining experience but also enhancing operational efficiency across its restaurant chains.

The decision to expand delivery services comes as consumer behavior shifts increasingly towards convenience and accessibility. In a post-pandemic dining landscape, more diners prefer dining at home while enjoying high-quality meals. Darden's pilot at Cheddar's is part of a broader strategy to cater to this demand and capture a larger share of the restaurant delivery market.

As Darden continues refining its restaurant technology and operational capabilities, the pilot at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen stands as a testament to its commitment to evolve with the market. Customers eagerly await the potential rollout of this service throughout additional locations, further solidifying Darden's innovative approach in the restaurant industry.

With Uber and Darden joining forces, the future of on-demand delivery looks bright. Customers can expect a seamless and delightful experience with their next order from Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, marking yet another exciting development in the relationship between restaurants and delivery services.
