Alfred Ramosedi Takes the Helm as New CIMA President Focused on Trust and Innovation

CIMA Welcomes New Leadership

In a significant move for the future of finance and accounting, Alfred Ramosedi, FCMA, CGMA, has been elected as the 93rd President of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). During the Annual General Meeting on June 24, 2026, Ramosedi not only took the presidency but also assumed the role of Co-Chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, a global body that's a partnership between CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).

During his tenure, Ramosedi intends to prioritize the integration of trust within the profession, heralding it as the most important currency in finance. He emphasized the need to embrace technology while fostering opportunities for emerging talents in the industry. This visionary approach is expected to redefine the accounting profession's role in the rapidly changing business landscape.

Fostering Trust and Innovation

"The choices we make today in earning trust, embracing technology, and nurturing future leaders will define the evolution of finance and accounting," Ramosedi stated during his acceptance speech. He acknowledged the challenges of navigating through uncertainty and complexity, but remained optimistic that with decisive action, the profession can stay ahead of the curve.

Ramosedi will collaborate closely with Jan Lewis, CPA, CGMA, the Association Chair, to guide the global accounting community during these transformative times. Their leadership is expected to steer the profession towards a future focused on innovation.

A Wealth of Experience

Ramosedi brings over 30 years of experience in South Africa's financial sector, having held various senior positions across leading institutions. After initiating his career at Nedbank Limited in 1995, he took on significant roles at ABSA Bank and African Bank, culminating in his appointment as CEO of Bayport Financial Services in 2017. This diverse experience equips him well to understand and tackle the challenges faced by the profession today.

His relationship with CIMA spans back to 1998, when he became Secretary of the CIMA Gauteng Branch. His leadership journey within the organization has seen him play pivotal roles, including being the inaugural chairman of the Southern Africa Regional Board and serving on multiple committees, highlighting his longstanding commitment to advancing the profession.

In 2013, he was recognized with the CIMA Silver Medal for his significant contributions. Ramosedi's dedication saw him rejoin CIMA's council in 2023, and he had spent the previous year as Deputy President, positioning him effectively for this new leadership role.

A Vision for the Future

Ramosedi's vision extends beyond just maintaining the status quo; he aims to champion new methodologies and perspectives in finance. "If we navigate our current landscape correctly, we won't just adapt to change - we will define it," he remarked with intent.

Moreover, his commitment to empowering the next generation is central to his leadership philosophy, as he aspires to leave a legacy that ensures not only sustainability but also progress within the culture of the profession.

Now residing in Johannesburg, South Africa, with his wife and three adult children, Ramosedi enjoys activities such as reading, cycling, and running. His diverse experiences and profound insights make him a pivotal figure in shaping the accounting profession's future.

As CIMA embarks on this new chapter under Ramosedi’s leadership, the global accounting community is optimistic about a future grounded in trust, innovation, and ample opportunities for advancement.
