Torogoz, Crowley's Latest Vessel, Makes Its Inaugural Commercial Voyage

Crowley's Torogoz Embarks on Its Maiden Voyage

Crowley's latest addition to its Avance Class fleet, the Torogoz, has officially set sail on its inaugural commercial journey. Departing from Port Everglades, Florida, this innovative vessel is set to enhance shipping services to Central America, including countries such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. This moment marks a significant milestone in Crowley’s mission to provide reliable and efficient logistics solutions.

The Torogoz, capable of carrying 1,400 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), features specialized designs to accommodate a diverse range of cargo, including refrigerated goods, apparel, fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. This capability positions Crowley to efficiently manage fast and frequent deliveries, ensuring that their customers receive goods in a timely manner.

One of the standout features of the Torogoz is its use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, which aligns with the company's commitment to reducing maritime emissions. As part of a fleet migration towards more sustainable operations, the Torogoz is expected to minimize the environmental impact of shipping, both at sea and in ports. Claudia Kattan-Jordan, Crowley’s Vice President for Logistics in Central America, Panama, and Mexico, emphasized the importance of this vessel in fulfilling the company's logistical pledge: “The introduction of Torogoz completes our historical Avance Class fleet expansion and marks a significant step in our commitment to efficient logistics solutions.”

The Torogoz follows its sister ships—Tiscapa, Quetzal, and Copán—all of which are named after cultural elements reflecting the rich heritage of Central America. The name Torogoz corresponds to the national bird of El Salvador, celebrated for its historical significance and spiritual resonance within various Mesoamerican cultures. Crowley has been operating shipping and logistics services in this region for over sixty years, solidifying its expertise and commitment to the area.

With the launch of Torogoz, Crowley strengthens its position as a leading maritime solution provider, ensuring a reliable service network for trade between the U.S. and Central America. The addition of this vessel not only allows for greater capacity and speed in shipping operations but also enhances the company’s ability to adapt to the changing needs of customers.

Over the years, Crowley has built a reputation for innovation within the maritime industry, continuing to meet the demands of both commercial and governmental sectors. With a proud history spanning more than 130 years, the company is recognized for its market leadership, operating in 36 nations and territories while remaining one of the largest employers of U.S. mariners. As it launches the Torogoz, Crowley is set to revolutionize shipping logistics in the region, pursuing a vision of sustainable growth and efficiency that will benefit both customers and the environment.
