2025 UBCF-Brookfield Pink Bag Initiative Shows Support for Breast Cancer Survivors

Overview of the Pink Bag Initiative

The United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) and Brookfield Properties have joined forces once again to present the 2025 UBCF-Brookfield Pink Bag Event Initiative. This meaningful campaign aims to support both patients and survivors of breast cancer by providing essential assistance and a sense of community. Coordinated to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the initiative takes place from late September to October. It aims to deliver over 4,500 thoughtfully curated "Pink Bag" care packages to those grappling with the multifaceted challenges that arise from a breast cancer diagnosis and recovery.

What's Inside the Pink Bag?

Each Pink Bag comprises a range of high-quality items, including personal care products, beauty accessories, and other practical essentials. Collectively valued at more than $3 million, these generous gifts are made possible through the contributions of various retail donors. This effort not only aims to offer tangible comfort but also serves as a platform for educating individuals about prevention, screening, treatment options, and resources available for survivors.

Impact and Community Engagement

This initiative marks the fourth consecutive year in which UBCF and Brookfield Properties have collaborated, having reached over 10,000 breast cancer patients and survivors across the United States. "This initiative is about more than raising awareness; it provides meaningful, real-world support to those who are affected," says Stephanie Mastroianni, Executive Director of UBCF. "As we celebrate UBCF's 25th anniversary, our commitment to delivering care, comfort, and community remains steadfast, touching the lives of those affected by breast cancer."

The Statistics of Breast Cancer

Despite the focus on awareness during October, the statistics related to breast cancer remain sobering. According to the American Cancer Society, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes, and 1 in 8 women will face this challenge in their lifetime. While cases among men are less frequent, it’s estimated that around 2,800 men will also receive a breast cancer diagnosis this year. These statistics underscore the importance of early detection, education, and consistent support, all of which are fundamental aspects of UBCF's mission to positively impact the lives of individuals affected by breast cancer.

Collaborative Efforts for a Greater Cause

Brookfield Properties plays a vital role in the execution of the Pink Bag Events, hosting activities at 29 shopping centers nationwide as part of their Brookfield Cares initiative. "Each year, we see our Pink Bag program evolve into something our communities eagerly anticipate," notes Caryn Torres, Senior Vice President of Property Management at Brookfield Properties. "It’s an opportunity to give back, spread joy, and raise awareness in a way that resonates with people at a personal level."

The Hope Beyond Diagnosis

Early detection is crucial, significantly affecting survival rates. When breast cancer is detected in its earliest and localized stage, the five-year survival rate stands at an impressive 99%. Currently, over 4 million breast cancer survivors reside in the U.S., a figure that offers hope. Organizations like UBCF are tirelessly working to spread that hope further.

Looking Ahead

As UBCF commemorates 25 years of service in October, they reflect on their journey while keeping an eye on future initiatives. Founded in 2000, UBCF has offered indispensable support services to individuals and families affected by breast cancer, providing financial aid, screenings, and events like the Pink Bag Initiative.
