CTM and Huawei's Strategic Alliance Enhances AI-Driven Network Security in Macau
Strengthening Network Security in Macau with CTM and Huawei
In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly dominates various sectors, CTM (Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau) has taken a significant step forward by partnering with Huawei to enhance network security in Macau. This collaboration was recently highlighted during the keynote speech at Network X 2026.
A Shift Towards Intelligent Infrastructure
CTM’s initiative aims to evolve traditional data transmission channels by transitioning to smart, deterministic, and secure network infrastructures. The objective is to accelerate the digital transformation of businesses within Macau, evolving from conventional methods to state-of-the-art solutions tailored for the robust demands of AI applications.
Hudson Lou, Head of Network Services and Development at CTM, emphasized this transformative goal in his address. The new intelligent and deterministic network infrastructure focuses on meeting the reliability and low-latency requirements necessary for efficient AI operations.
To achieve this transformation, CTM will introduce Adaptive Gateway (AGW) functions and AI-powered capabilities for Broadband Network Gateways (BNG). This technology aims not only to improve service recognition but also to facilitate dynamic traffic steering, ensuring an optimized user experience and reducing international bandwidth costs.
Real-time Optimization and Data Handling
The upcoming transition to AGW 2.0 signifies an essential advancement as CTM plans to integrate AI-driven analytics with telemetry. This will allow for a substantial upgrade from manual to automated optimization. The result is a deterministic, differentiated user experience particularly advantageous for high-value application scenarios, driving revenue growth in dealings with governmental and corporate sectors.
As part of their strategic vision, CTM believes that modern network security extends beyond merely establishing firewalls. Security needs to be an integral part of the network infrastructure itself. Underpinning this vision is a commitment to exploring modernization opportunities in three core areas:
1. Integrated Device Security: This involves deploying integrated security functionalities coupled with AI-driven behavioral analysis to identify abnormal behaviors in real time. This shift moves away from traditional signature-based defenses toward intelligent, behavior-based detection systems.
2. Security Functions as a Service: By bundling security features such as DDoS mitigation and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), network operators can provide security services within a short timeframe, eliminating the need for extensive manual installations. This service allows governmental and business clients to subscribe to security services as needed, facilitating faster monetization of network security functionalities.
3. Preparedness for Quantum Computing: To tackle the emerging security threats posed by quantum computing, CTM and Huawei have jointly developed an innovative solution ratifying an IP target architecture equipped with integrated Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). This proactive approach enables network operators to validate quantum-secure technologies and enhance their network planning. The outcome is a next-generation security framework tailored for data transmission within critical industries, while the integrated QKD solution concurrently reduces operational and maintenance expenditures.
Paving the Way for Future Networks
These technological advancements not only propose a roadmap towards enhancing the competitiveness of networks within Macau but also serve as a model for network operators globally to transition to intelligent and secure architectures suitable for the AI age. With CTM and Huawei at the forefront, the future of network security appears promising, unlocking new avenues for businesses and users alike in the digital landscape of Macau.
