CTM and Huawei Join Forces to Enhance Network Security in Macau's AI Era

Strengthening Macau's Network Security with Intelligent Technology

In a groundbreaking presentation at Network X 2026, CTM unveiled its vision for a secure network designed to meet the high reliability and low latency requirements essential for Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. As the digital landscape evolves, CTM, in collaboration with Huawei, is strategically positioning itself to accelerate the digital transformation of enterprises in Macau.

Hudson Lou, Head of Network Services and Development at CTM, highlighted the shift towards an "intelligent, predictable, and secure" network infrastructure. This innovative approach incorporates advanced technologies such as AI-driven application gateways (AGWs) and broadband network gateways (BNGs), enabling smart service recognition and dynamic resource allocation. By optimizing traffic routes, they aim to enhance user experience while reducing international bandwidth costs.

Transitioning to AGW 2.0

CTM's transition to AGW 2.0 marks a significant leap. By integrating telemetry with AI analytics, CTM is moving from manual optimization to automated, AI-driven processes. This transformation promises to deliver consistent, high-quality services for high-value applications, consequently boosting revenue streams for public administration and enterprises alike.

CTM advocates for a paradigm shift in network security. They emphasize that security cannot merely be an add-on at the network's perimeter; instead, it should be a fundamental part of the network architecture itself. This philosophy guides CTM in modernizing network security across three crucial areas:

1. Built-in Device Security:
Using inherent security features and AI-based behavior analysis, devices can now detect unusual activities in real-time. This evolution signifies a departure from traditional signature-based protections toward intelligent behavior analysis for threat detection.

2. Security Features as a Service:
By pooling essential security functions—such as DDoS attack mitigation, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and phishing protection—network operators can launch network security services within days. This model eliminates the need for manual on-site deployments, enabling public entities and businesses to access security services on demand while quickly generating revenue from these offerings.

3. Preparing for the Quantum Computing Era:
In anticipation of the challenges posed by quantum computing to existing cryptographic mechanisms, CTM and Huawei have co-developed a pioneering solution that integrates quantum key distribution (QKD) within a targeted IP architecture. This proactive stance allows operators to test quantum-resistant technologies early and plan network advancements that enhance security for critical data transmissions. The innovative QKD implementation significantly reduces operational and maintenance costs while securing vital sectors.

The advancements showcased by CTM and Huawei not only foster increased competitiveness for Macau's network but also provide a new blueprint for operators globally to transition to intelligent and secure network infrastructures in the AI era. As businesses pivot to adopt these technologies, the implications for network reliability and security in addressing burgeoning digital demands are profound, ensuring that the region remains at the forefront of technological innovation.

As we move forward into the future of connectivity and digital services, CTM and Huawei's collaboration represents a crucial step in safeguarding not just Macau's networks, but setting a precedent for the world on how to leverage AI for comprehensive and resilient network solutions.
