Fairfax City Launches Innovative Grant Program to Boost Small Business Marketing Efforts
Fairfax City Boosts Small Businesses with New Marketing Grant Program
In an effort to invigorate the local economy, Fairfax City Economic Development (FCED) has recently announced the launch of the Fairfax City Business Marketing Grant. This innovative funding initiative, which totals $25,000, is geared toward assisting small businesses in the region in enhancing their marketing strategies to increase visibility and competitive edge.
A Financial Helping Hand for Local Businesses
The grant offers selected small businesses access to a host of professional marketing services. This includes both digital and traditional marketing strategies, brand development, public relations, and tailored strategic services designed to meet specific business needs. The initiative will award grants of up to $5,000 to at least five businesses, thereby connecting them with industry experts who can guide them in navigating the challenges of today's competitive market.
Catherine S. Read, the Mayor of Fairfax City, emphasized the importance of marketing for the success of small enterprises. ”Marketing is the cornerstone of every successful business,” said Read. She explained that many small businesses operate on limited budgets and may struggle to allocate funds for professional marketing services. The grant aims to alleviate this burden and allow local businesses to invest in better marketing initiatives.
Addressing a Critical Need
According to Christopher Bruno, CEO and Director of FCED, the grant program emerged from recognizing the increased demand for professional marketing resources following last year’s successful Women's Entrepreneur Grant Opportunity program. Bruno stated, _“By unlocking access to marketing expertise, we're helping businesses overcome challenges, stay competitive, and drive long-term economic growth in our community.”_
The program specifically targets small businesses as defined by the Small Business Administration. Eligible businesses must be licensed and have at least one location in Fairfax City. Home-based businesses, start-ups, and expanding enterprises can apply, while non-profits are not eligible for the grant.
Application Process
Businesses interested in applying for the grant must submit their applications between February 7 and February 21, 2025. To qualify, they need to demonstrate clear needs for marketing support and provide a feasible plan detailing how they will utilize the funds. Each proposal will be evaluated based on its impact, service selection, timeline, and cost-effectiveness.
Once awarded, grant recipients will be recognized in a special presentation during the Economic Development Authority meeting scheduled for April 2, 2025. Applicants will be notified by March 3, 2025, and grants will be distributed in advance, enabling businesses to start their marketing strategies without delay.
How to Apply
To apply for the Fairfax City Business Marketing Grant, small businesses can download an application form from the FCED website starting February 7. Applications can be submitted by email or delivered in person to the FCED office located at 10300 Eaton Place, Suite 235, Fairfax, VA 22030.
