On March 4, 2025, Jim's Formal Wear Inc. (JFW) proudly announced its transformation into a fully employee-owned company through the establishment of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Drawing on its distinguished history since its founding in 1964, JFW has evolved into the largest independent provider of men's formal wear services across the United States. Headquartered in Trenton, Illinois, JFW operates seven service centers and eight delivery hubs nationwide. Their extensive inventory includes a variety of garments tailored for formal occasions such as weddings, proms, and quinceañeras.

Over the decades, Jim's Formal Wear has evolved under three generations of family leadership, expanding its reach and establishing itself as a national distributor of rental and retail formal wear to over 4,500 independent retailers, including bridal shops and tuxedo specialists. This robust network has been built on strong relationships that emphasize loyalty, with many retailers having partnered with JFW for over a decade.

As of now, the company employs approximately 500 full-time staff members and recruits an additional 250 to 300 seasonal workers during peak times. The transition to an employee-owned structure not only enhances morale but is expected to drive innovation within the company. Davis highlighted that this move aims to celebrate the dedication, talent, and hard work of the JFW team, encouraging them to take a proactive role in shaping the company's future.

According to the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO), Jim's Formal Wear is now one of over 6,500 ESOPs operating in the United States, a testament to the growing trend of employee ownership. This structure currently encompasses nearly 15 million participants nationwide, including more than 300 ESOPs based in Illinois alone. Jim's Formal Wear's transition is seen as an important model for companies aspiring to create a culture where employees have a vested interest in their organization’s prosperity.
