Multiconsult's Third Quarter 2026 Results: Gradual Improvements Amid Operational Enhancements

Multiconsult's Third Quarter 2026 Results

On November 3, 2026, Multiconsult publicly released its financial performance results for the third quarter, highlighting some gradual but notable improvements as the quarter progressed. Interim CEO Kristin Olsson Augestad shared insights into the company's financial standing, discussing the positive effects of operational efficiency measures implemented during this period.

Financial Performance Overview

The report indicated that Multiconsult's net operating revenues increased by 2.0%, reaching NOK 1,219.7 million. Despite the growth in revenue, the organic growth rate adjusted for calendar effects and acquisitions was a modest 0.1%. The order intake showed a robust performance, soaring to NOK 1,355 million, which is a significant increase of 12.4% compared to the previous year's third quarter.

Although the financial results did not fully meet the company’s long-term aspirations, the groundwork laid during the summer months began showing positive outcomes towards September. The CEO noted that while profitability fluctuated during the quieter summer period, measures to boost efficiency positively impacted results by September.

EBITA Insights

Multiconsult's earnings before interest, taxation, and amortization (EBITA) reflected a decrease to NOK 6.3 million, resulting in a margin of 0.5%. This contrasted with a much more favorable EBITA of NOK 62.1 million the previous year, which corresponded to a 5.2% margin. After adjustments, EBITA for the quarter was NOK 45.0 million, translated to a margin of 3.7%. The report also stressed the significant impact of transaction and restructuring costs attributable to a proposed merger with Rejlers, which incurred NOK 38.3 million in costs, negatively influencing profitability.

Operational Enhancements and Future Directions

Despite the challenges faced during the summer, Multiconsult maintained a consistent billing ratio of 70.1% and recorded an increase in billing rates. The company also observed a slight reduction in full-time equivalents (FTE), decreasing by 0.3% to 3,731, a trend reflective of ongoing operational adjustments.

Looking forward, Multiconsult’s merger plan with Rejlers is a significant strategic move aimed at creating a robust multidisciplinary consultancy group in the Nordics. This initiative, approved by both companies' general meetings on October 19, is projected to enhance operational capabilities and market reach across various sectors, including energy and industrial projects.

Net Profit and Share Performance

Reflecting on the overall quarterly performance, the net profit for Multiconsult registered a loss of NOK 20.9 million, translating to an earnings per share of NOK -0.74, a decline from the prior year's NOK 38.9 million profit and thereby presenting challenges amid current market conditions.

Year-to-Date Performance

Examining the year-to-date performance, net operating revenues have seen a year-on-year growth of 5.3%, amounting to NOK 4,354.7 million. Despite the positive calendar effect of NOK 7.0 million, EBITA declined overall to NOK 275.1 million, marking a 6.3% EBITA margin. As the merger with Rejlers progresses, with finalization expected by year-end or early 2027 subject to regulatory approvals, Multiconsult aims to focus on both maintaining its operational momentum and consolidating its market position.

In summary, while Multiconsult has encountered operational challenges, the strategies implemented, including the merger discussions and enhanced profitability measures, suggest that the company is poised for growth in the coming periods. Stakeholders are encouraged to monitor the unfolding developments and the company's commitment to evolving its operational framework towards attaining long-term objectives.
