Eisai's Human Capital Report 2025: A New Paradigm in Human Capital Management
Eisai Co., Ltd. has made headlines recently for its innovative approach to human capital management, prominently showcased in the newly released Human Capital Report 2025 (HCR2025). Under the guidance of Yasuki Sanpei, the head of People and Communication Strategy, this report not only reflects a significant milestone for the company but also exemplifies a collaborative spirit inviting external insights from top industry experts.
In a special YouTube interview series presented by the Protean Career Association, Eisai's multifaceted development process for HCR2025 has been unveiled in a three-part series titled "The Frontier of Human Capital Management." This series aims to illuminate the various elements that contribute to effective human capital management, with a focus on co-creation and collaborative efforts with leading companies such as the Marui Group, Ajinomoto, and Chugai Pharmaceutical.
The Driving Forces of HCR2025
These partnerships are a core component of HCR2025, where engaging dialogue, referred to as "butsukari-geiko," took place with personnel from these organizations. Sanpei emphasized that the creation process included not just internal stakeholders but also voices from renowned leaders in human capital. This cross-company collaboration has been central to erecting a robust and comprehensive report that mirrors the best practices in the industry.
The second episode in the series gives viewers an in-depth look at how the HCR2025 was crafted. Among the highlights, the production process involved a diverse group of 24 employees together with around 50 participants who contributed as interviewees. Rather than taking a top-down approach, Eisai adopted a more grassroots strategy, advocating for employee engagement through a project called "Synergy Wave." This initiative demonstrates how collaborative energy fuels creativity and ownership among all employees, encouraging them to participate actively in shaping the company’s narrative.
Global Connectivity and Innovation
Eisai has also demonstrated a proactive approach in establishing global collaboration. The company reached out to its overseas sales departments to recommend high-energy personnel, showcasing their commitment to cross-border cooperation in cultivating dynamic workplaces and innovative practices. This is a critical move, considering that successful human capital management should not be restricted to domestic frameworks but rather align with global standards.
Rethinking Human Capital
In the report, Eisai positions human capital not merely as a resource but as a vital asset that needs fostering. The company's philosophy emphasizes that providing an environment conducive to growth can lead to value creation. HCR2025 aims to inspire employees to present their experiences and insights about the company actively, enriching communication and trust within the organization.
The report sets a higher benchmark, envisioning a scenario where employees feel proud to share their experiences, further reinforcing a culture of openness and acknowledgment. This demonstrates a transformative shift in corporate culture, moving away from treating personnel as mere resources to recognizing them as invaluable contributors to organizational success.
Building Toward the Future
As companies everywhere seek to modernize their human capital strategies, the lesson from Eisai is clear: organizations must transition from tactical management focused on efficiency to strategic stewardship that promotes the collective health of a workplace. The Protean Career Association has dedicated itself to supporting organizations in achieving this transition through various initiatives, including the successful rollout of the Protean Career Dock to over 250 corporations and recognition in the HR Awards 2024.
With the launch of this insightful YouTube series, the association aims to disseminate Eisai's advanced practices widely, contributing to career autonomy and elevated corporate value across Japan.
