Scania's Historic 91 Electric Bus Order Marks New Era for Sustainable Transport in Sweden

In a significant advancement for sustainable transportation, Scania, a leader in commercial vehicle manufacturing, has partnered with VR, a prominent transport operator in Sweden, to deliver a fleet of 91 battery-electric buses. This order represents one of the largest electric bus agreements in Sweden to date, emphasizing a shared commitment to reducing emissions and enhancing public transport efficiency.

The battery-electric buses are slated to commence service in the Södertälje area starting June 2027. This initiative stems from VR's successful bid to provide bus services in the localities of Södertälje and Nykvarn, awarded by the public transport authority SL. Out of the total 91 electric buses, 32 will feature a 4x2 configuration, while 59 will adopt a more robust 6x2*4 configuration, each equipped with 445 kWh of installed energy capacity. These advanced Fencer f1 BEV buses are developed on Scania’s cutting-edge battery-electric bus platform, which is produced within Europe. Once operational, these vehicles will significantly contribute to curtailing carbon emissions and enhancing urban living conditions, aligning perfectly with the environmental goals of both VR and Scania.

This agreement not only facilitates immediate gains in environmental impact but also paves the way for the future of electric public transportation in upcoming urban developments across Sweden.
