McKendree Hickory: A Breakthrough Performance

Crossing the finish line within the significant 30-hour cutoff, Hickory completed the race with a time of 19:39:12, further solidifying her place in Leadville’s storied history. Earlier this summer, she had also showcased her talent by finishing fifth in the Leadville Marathon. Returning to Leadville with a newfound determination, Hickory navigated the demanding course, gradually advancing through the ranks to seize the lead toward the finish.

Following in her footsteps was Jacquie Mannhard, a previous champion of the Leadville Trail 100, who succeeded in securing the second position with a time of 20:28:37. Meanwhile, local athlete Emma Wood crossed the line in third place at 20:33:33.

Adrian Macdonald: A Seasoned Champion

On the men’s front, Adrian Macdonald emerged victorious, marking his third win at Leadville with a time of 15:47:23. Having previously clinched titles in 2021 and 2022, Macdonald’s experience showed as he strategically paced himself, accelerating into the lead around the race’s halfway mark. Additionally, of the 130 participants in the Lead Challenge initiative who began racing in June, 41 athletes successfully crossed the finish line at this race, highlighting their commitment and resilience.

In total, 387 athletes completed the Race Across the Sky this year, with 119 runners achieving the prestigious large belt buckle for finishing under 25 hours, while 268 earned the smaller version for completing the race within the 30-hour cutoff.
