Shanghai Electric Secures First International Order for Gas Turbine in Malaysia

Shanghai Electric's Groundbreaking Achievement

In a landmark development for the energy sector, Shanghai Electric (SEHK: 02727, SSE: 601727) has successfully clinched its first overseas contract for a high-capacity gas turbine. This significant feat was announced as part of the Sarawak Samalaju combined cycle power plant project in Malaysia, comprising a capacity of 500 MW. This achievement not only highlights the capacity of Shanghai Electric's cutting-edge gas turbine technology but also solidifies its growing competitiveness within the global power generation market.

The contract entails a comprehensive EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) solution for the gas-fired power station, along with a long-term service agreement (LTSA) spanning 25 years for all essential equipment. Notably, Shanghai Electric will manufacture all core components in-house, including gas and steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, and air cooling systems. As the sole supplier of the long-term technical and maintenance program, the company is set to deliver integrated solutions that embody the full lifecycle management of power generation systems.

Currently, Shanghai Electric boasts an impressive lineup of high-capacity gas turbines with rated outputs of 300 MW and 78 MW. To date, the company has successfully installed 103 units, amounting to a cumulative installed capacity exceeding 21,000 MW. Not only have the deployed systems demonstrated their reliability, but they have also accumulated over 1.3 million operational hours through Shanghai Electric's long-term service programs.

The firm’s capabilities in producing both gas and steam turbines allow it to offer new installations available as early as 2028. Amidst affirmations from developers in Malaysia, there is notable interest from project developers in Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam for potential orders, indicating a rapidly expanding market for Shanghai Electric.

This international contract marks a crucial recognition of Shanghai Electric’s advanced technology in high-capacity gas turbines, placing it among the elite in the sector. The company’s vertical integration covering equipment manufacturing, system integration, and prolonged operational support showcases its ambition to compete with leading names in the gas turbine domain globally.

As the energy landscape evolves, Shanghai Electric is committed to maintaining its trajectory of innovation and excellence, pushing boundaries, and meeting the growing power demands of Southeast Asia and beyond. This project represents not just a financial milestone but also a testament to the company's strategic vision and commitment to sustainable energy solutions that promise efficiency and reliability for years to come.

In conclusion, with this pivotal contract, Shanghai Electric positions itself as a formidable player in the global energy industry, ready to embrace the challenges of the future while offering world-class technology and services to meet the needs of its clients across international borders.
