G Mining Ventures Secures Environmental Permit for Oko West Gold Project

G Mining Ventures Corp. (TSX: GMIN) has reached a significant regulatory milestone with the approval of the Environmental Permit for its Oko West Gold Project, located in Guyana. This crucial permit was granted by the Guyana Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) following an extensive review process that began with the establishment of Terms of Reference in early 2023. The project submits its Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) in November 2024, highlighting a commitment to transparency and environmental stewardship.

The five-year permit will allow G Mining Ventures to proceed with the construction and operation of the Oko West, which is expected to create, on average, approximately 1,270 direct permanent jobs throughout its lifespan. Louis-Pierre Gignac, President and CEO of G Mining, remarked, “Receiving this Environmental Permit is a pivotal moment for Oko West, as it de-risks the project and helps us move toward a construction decision later this year.” This approval not only reflects the collaborative nature of GMIN's engagement with the EPA and the government but also reassures stakeholders of the project’s responsible progression.

A Commitment to Responsible Mining

The project underscores GMIN's commitment to mining that prioritizes environmental safety and social welfare. The company aims to ensure that the Oko West Project not only meets regulatory compliance but also enhances local economies and communities in Region 7. Gignac further noted that the project aims to safeguard the environment while generating employment and offering sustainable economic benefits.

In a broader context, Guyana's attractiveness as a mining investment destination continues to be acknowledged. The Fraser Institute’s Annual Survey of Mining Companies ranked Guyana as one of the top 10 jurisdictions globally in mining, showcasing its favorable investment environment. GMIN's smooth collaboration with various regulatory bodies, including the Guyana Forestry Commission, Revenue Authority, and Geology and Mines Commission, highlights the country’s strong support system for the mining sector.

Progress and Future Steps

Early works commenced in March 2025, encompassing the development of necessary infrastructure like a wharf on the Cuyuni River, access roads, and a permanent camp for workers. G Mining Ventures has already committed about $190 million towards critical long-lead items such as mobile and marine equipment, grinding mills, and power generation units. The company anticipates the initial delivery of equipment in the second half of 2025, which will enable the start of earthmoving operations on-site.

Looking ahead, GMIN is preparing for a formal construction decision in the latter part of 2025, at which stage they will provide more information regarding project financing and development timelines. Detailed engineering work and exploration activities at Oko West will continue in the meantime.
