Understanding How to Cope with the Unchangeable: A Free Psychology Seminar

Rissho University's Public Lecture on Psychology



On October 17, 2026, Rissho University, located in Shinagawa, Tokyo, will co-host a public seminar titled "Coping with the Unchangeable: How to Live with Stress" in collaboration with Shinagawa City. This event aims to provide participants with tools and insights to manage daily stress related to work, relationships, and future uncertainties, offering practical advice rooted in psychological research.

The seminar will take place at Lotus Hall on the Rissho University Shinagawa Campus from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with doors opening at 1:30 PM. Open to individuals aged 16 and over, the seminar has a capacity of 200 participants, and registration is free. Attendees must sign up in advance, as spots are limited and will be allocated by lottery if oversubscribed.

Program Overview



The seminar is structured into two parts, guided by two distinguished psychologists from the university, followed by a Q&A session:

Part 1: Understanding Stress


In the first segment, participants will explore different perspectives on managing stress, focusing on the concept of "Sense of Coherence" (SOC). The lecture will delve into how our outlook can influence our ability to navigate challenging situations effectively.

Part 2: Mindfulness Practices


The second part will introduce mindfulness techniques aimed at alleviating feelings of anxiety and anger, emphasizing practical applications that can be integrated into daily life. Attendees will learn how to cultivate mindfulness as a tool for enhancing emotional resilience and well-being.

Dialogue and Q&A


In addition to the lectures, the session will feature a dialogue between the speakers, encouraging participants to ask questions and discuss strategies to face unchangeable aspects of life. This interaction aims not only to inform but to provide tangible takeaways that can lighten participants' emotional burdens.

Meet the Speakers


Masaya Takebe


Position: Associate Professor, Clinical Psychology at Rissho University.
Expertise: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Clinical Sports Psychology. His research primarily focuses on the prevention of eating disorders, anger management, and psychological support for stress. He also has extensive clinical experience as a psychologist in psychiatric and psychosomatic medicine.

Takayoshi Kase


Position: Lecturer, Interpersonal and Social Psychology at Rissho University.
Expertise: Health Psychology, Personality Psychology, and Positive Psychology. His research explores stress coping mechanisms and the development of life skills, primarily during adolescence and adulthood, promoting mental health and overall well-being.
