Cool Carriers Chile Shows Strong Performance Despite Declining Demand for Imported Fruits

Operational Success of Cool Carriers Chile for Summer 2025/26

The operational results for the 2025/26 summer season from Cool Carriers Chile have painted a positive picture amidst a challenging market. From October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, the company successfully transported 260,000 pallets of fresh produce, including cherries, blueberries, grapes, and stone fruits, to the United States. Cool Carriers, notably the largest operator of specialized reefer vessels globally, has demonstrated its capability to adapt and maintain strong performance despite an overall decline in demand for imported fruits.

Navigating Challenging Conditions

The demand for imported fruit in the U.S. has seen a notable decline, with a reported drop of approximately 25% in shipments from Chile to Los Angeles and 17% to Gloucester, NJ. However, Cool Carriers Chile has managed to buck this trend remarkably. The company's operations out of key Chilean ports—Coquimbo and Valparaiso—led to successful shipments that showcased their efficient logistics and high standards for cold chain controls.

Key Highlights from the 2025/26 Summer Season

  • - Gloucester Shipments: A total of 178,000 pallets were delivered to Gloucester over 24 port calls, maintaining an average transit time of 12 days. This feat translated to a market share of 46.5%, which marks an 11% growth compared to the previous summer season.
  • - Los Angeles Shipments: In Los Angeles, Cool Carriers managed to transport 82,000 pallets across 12 port calls, achieving a record market share of 71.3%.

General Manager Ricardo Barckhahn acknowledges the solid operational results, emphasizing the effectiveness of the company’s operating model. He noted that their specialized services geared toward fresh fruit transport and their direct routes to essential markets have facilitated a unique adaptability to marketplace fluctuations.

Commitment to Quality and Efficiency

A core element behind Cool Carriers' impressive operational success lies in their attention to detail and commitment to quality. The decline in demand has pushed the company to reinforce their high standards and rigorous quality checks. According to Barckhahn, “Our specialized offering has allowed us to navigate fluctuating market demands effectively, ensuring that we meet the necessary short transit times and maintain superior cold chain management.”

Industry Standing and Future Outlook

Cool Carriers operates a fleet of over 50 specialized reefer vessels, outfitted for fast and dedicated transportation of perishable cargo, including not just fruits but also bananas and frozen meats. The company remains focused on providing prompt services, addressing the demands of a dynamic market environment.

This performance is not only indicative of Cool Carriers Chile's internal capabilities but also highlights the broader resilience of the reefer shipping industry amidst fluctuating market demands. As the global landscape continues to evolve, Cool Carriers is well-positioned to tackle future challenges and deliver essential goods effectively to international markets.
