Smartee Achieves Milestone with First European Summit in Mallorca
Smartee's Historic European Summit in Mallorca
On September 19, 2026, Smartee Denti-Technology culminated its inaugural European Summit in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. This event marks a significant milestone, being the first large-scale academic summit organized by the company outside of China. During this two-day event, nearly 300 orthodontic experts and clinicians from 27 countries came together to exchange knowledge and experiences.
A Platform for Innovation
The summit featured a series of presentations covering cutting-edge topics such as jaw repositioning technology, complex malocclusion management, early orthodontic treatment, dental sleep medicine, and respiratory care, alongside the international launches of Smartee’s new products: the SA/SA Plus and AG KIDS.
Junfeng Yao, the founder and CEO of Smartee, opened the summit by discussing the integration of artificial intelligence into their products and internal workflows aimed at improving clinical support efficiency for doctors. Throughout the two days, speakers from Europe and Asia presented clinical case studies, research advancements, and treatment perspectives across various areas of orthodontic practice.
Focus on Jaw Repositioning Technology
The first day of the program was dedicated to the GS mandibular repositioning technology and its clinical application for treating malocclusions involving discrepancies in jaw position. Professor Gang Shen from Taikang ByBo Dental, who is also Chief R&D Scientist for GS at Smartee, kicked off the scientific program with a presentation on the development and clinical philosophy of the GS system. He, along with Dr. Xingxing Wang, the clinical medical director at Smartee, showcased the clinical fundamentals and applications of jaw repositioning from a three-dimensional perspective.
The session also included contributions from Professor Thomas Felkai from Semmelweis University (Hungary), Dr. Katarzyna Łoza-Sołtyk, and Dr. Pratik Sharma, who discussed various clinical cases focusing on diagnosis, treatment objectives, mandibular position evaluation, and therapeutic strategy selection for different types of malocclusion.
Professor Shen emphasized that proper patient selection is a crucial prerequisite for successful jaw repositioning, highlighting the need to evaluate the jaw's position in sagittal, vertical, and transverse planes. He noted, "The first step is to determine if there exists an anomalous jaw position and then assess the discrepancy direction in a three-dimensional context."
Expanding the Discussion to Early Orthodontics
The second day expanded the scientific program to encompass early orthodontic treatment and clinical management of growing patients, alongside managing obstructive sleep apnea and airway management. Discussions around early orthodontics focused on timing for treatment, interceptive treatment, craniofacial growth, airway assessment, and orofacial myofunctional therapy.
The experts included Professor Shen, Dr. Vicente Torres from the University of Valencia, and Dr. Steffen Decker. Their discussions highlighted the importance of considering developmental stages, respiratory patterns, and orofacial function in treatment planning for early orthodontic patients.
In an interview after the summit, Professor Jane Shi emphasized evaluating patients' airways, respiratory patterns, and orofacial myofunction in developing early orthodontic treatment plans.
Dental Sleep Medicine
The afternoon sessions turned to dental sleep medicine and airway management, featuring Professor Antonio Gracco, Dr. Francesca Milano, and Dr. Yue Weng Cheu, who discussed scientific evidence in dental sleep medicine and the incorporation of transparent aligner technology into sleep-related care.
Dr. Cheu, a key clinical collaborator on Smartee's recently launched AG KIDS product, stressed that while orthodontists can identify potential risk indicators during routine clinical evaluations, diagnosing sleep-related breathing disorders should be left to pertinent medical specialties.
International Product Launches
The summit also served as a global platform for launching Smartee's two new systems: SA/SA Plus, aimed at addressing clinical needs associated with primary snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, and AG KIDS, a growth guidance system for patients aged 3 to 16, which aims to control facial growth effectively.
A Future of Global Academic Exchange
After the scientific sessions, participants and collaborators underlined the clinical relevance of the program, especially its combination of case-based learning and interdisciplinary dialogue. A UK attendee remarked, "We had the opportunity to meet many interesting orthodontists and clinicians tackling treatment in diverse ways worldwide, which was truly inspiring."
As Smartee's first significant academic summit held abroad, the Mallorca event represents a new phase in the company's international academic development, transitioning from merely presenting products and technologies to fostering broader clinical discussions across multiple disciplines. Garie Zhou, Smartee's Director of International Business, stated that the company plans to continue its commitment to international academic exchanges, professional training, and clinical research in key areas such as GS technology, early orthodontics, and dental sleep medicine.
Following the Mallorca summit, Smartee is set to expand its academic platform further, with Rome scheduled to be the next host of the European summit in 2027.
