Autumn Evening Festival at Showa Kinen Park
From October 30 to November 30, 2025, Showa Kinen Park in Tokyo's Tachikawa and Akishima cities is hosting the "Autumn Leaves Festival & Night Walk." This year’s event features stunning illuminations of the park's famous spots, including the Canal Ginkgo Avenue and the Japanese Garden. The charming Japanese Garden sprawls across approximately 6 hectares, making it the largest of its kind in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and it is currently showcasing its vivid maple leaves in a dazzling palette of reds and oranges.
During calm evenings, the illuminated trees reflect beautifully on the still waters of the pond, creating a picture-perfect scene that delights visitors. The festival not only emphasizes the natural beauty of the park but also incorporates traditional Japanese elements, offering guests an experience steeped in culture. Visitors can admire the illuminated 300 maple trees and snow-draped pines while wandering along the picturesque paths.
The event features unique installations, including traditional Japanese umbrellas and wind chimes. Guests can also borrow umbrellas for free as they enjoy the surroundings. Various photo spots are set up for capturing the enchanting atmosphere, making it a perfect opportunity for memorable photographs.
One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the light-up of the Bonsai Museum, Japan's first national bonsai display facility, which opened in 2004. Celebrating its 20th anniversary last year, the museum received positive feedback when it held its first light-up event, and it's continuing this year due to popular demand. Visitors can explore meticulously arranged bonsais, showcasing some of the finest specimens typical of national bonsai exhibitions. The lighting design is intricately planned to enhance the unique characteristics of these bonsai trees.
As for the Canal Ginkgo Avenue, the first light-up this year lights up the vibrant ginkgo trees, which are also at their peak.
